• Peer specialists have a unique opportunity to step out and be a branch<br />

and <strong>in</strong>fluence the community with coworkers and service users, <strong>peer</strong>s<br />

important <strong>role</strong> as a change agent to facilitate learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

• Environment is emotionally charged and passionate and a field with<br />

strong op<strong>in</strong>ions, assume <strong>in</strong>tentions <strong>of</strong> workers and <strong>peer</strong>s<br />

• <strong>The</strong> <strong>peer</strong> specialists’ capacity <strong>in</strong> mediat<strong>in</strong>g struggles with a new twist –<br />

<strong>in</strong> situations where programs and systems play games with treatment,<br />

the <strong>peer</strong> specialist has to f<strong>in</strong>d courage and relationship skills to<br />

mediate that<br />

• Role model<strong>in</strong>g – model for recovery and mak<strong>in</strong>g that a positive<br />

statement by exist<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> that <strong>role</strong>.<br />

• Disclosure – ServiceNet has a disclosure policy about disclos<strong>in</strong>g with<br />

dignity<br />

• New – plan, reflect on mistakes, ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> fluidity – use technologies<br />

and new <strong>in</strong>formation <strong>in</strong> groups, not just 1-1….spread the word<br />

Group #2<br />

Facilitator: Beth Lucas, DMH<br />

• <strong>role</strong> ps plays <strong>in</strong> help<strong>in</strong>g providers with awareness – good <strong>in</strong>tentions<br />

but badly applied, keep them on right track<br />

• <strong>in</strong>frastructure for <strong>peer</strong> <strong>support</strong> and sdm br<strong>in</strong>gs to the front and center<br />

this <strong>role</strong>


• facilitat<strong>in</strong>g process <strong>of</strong> change, it is a process that takes time<br />

• foot <strong>in</strong> both world, client and provider help<strong>in</strong>g to manage conflicts<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternal and external<br />

• risk – refram<strong>in</strong>g risk discussion, manag<strong>in</strong>g litigation and forget about<br />

risk to person ps <strong>role</strong> to reframe<br />

• transform<strong>in</strong>g psychiatry<br />

• transition mak<strong>in</strong>g, least likely person to benefit can and will<br />

• first or only <strong>in</strong>tro to <strong>peer</strong> <strong>support</strong> so the powerful potential to l<strong>in</strong>k<br />

people to other <strong>peer</strong> <strong>support</strong> networks<br />

• take the time as needed, not subject to bill<strong>in</strong>g protocol<br />

• technology help others to use tools to <strong>in</strong>crease access<br />

• potentially isolat<strong>in</strong>g, alone – <strong>support</strong> for ps
