Problem-Based Learning Discussions (PBLDs) are awidely accepted teaching technique, conducted as case-based, problemoriented,
learner-centered discussions. These sessions are guided informally to promote, and encourage an interchange of ideas. Each
session can have up to amaximum of twenty (20) participants who meet with the moderator that authored the particular anesthesia
problem. These sessions allow for an in-depth exploration of the case and simulate problem-solving techniques which
anesthesiologists encounter,and employ in their daily practice.
Unique Advantages of the PBLDTeachingTechnique:
• Gain insight into problem-solving strategies used by collegues;
• Encourage the utilization of available educational resources;
• Develop adetailed anesthetic plan geared for aspecific case.
Small group Format Allows:
• Opportunity for dynamic interaction with peers and the faculty moderator;
• Non-lecture format, to facilitate active learning;
• Learner-centered, rather than faculty-centered;
• Promotion of teamwork in clinical problem solving.
The complete listing of Problem-Based Learning Discussion moderators, course objectives, faculty disclosures and room locations will
