DEMINING TOOLBOX INTEGRATION
After examining the sources of problems in demining operations, the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) established the
concept of demining tools integration which would improve work effectiveness, speed up operations, and appropriately employ
CMAC Mine Action Tools. This concept captures all standard operating procedures for demining tools and additional
guidelines which are relevant to the integration of the Mine Detection Dog Team (MDD), Brush Cutter (BC) and Mobile
Platoon (MPL) or other Mobile Teams.
The Aim of the Demining Toolbox Integration Guideline:

To ensure that teams assigned to a clearance or land release task are integrated well with each other. The implementation
of demining tasks allocated to each team must be effectively coordinated, scheduled and well managed; and teams must
understand each other’s role and responsibility related to the overall task execution.
To ensure that activities are efficiently maximized with quality and safety standards.
The Operational Process for Demining Tool Integration:
When more than one demining tool is deployed, one minefield manager is assigned the role of Command and Control over
an assigned clearance or land release task. The minefield manager coordinates all teams and ensures that the site operation
will achieve the toolbox integration aim efficiently, effectively and safely.
The Brush Cutter must be deployed for at least three to seven days in advance to start cutting vegetation in the minefield,
thus opening lanes and creating boxes for the MDD Teams. In certain situations Mobile Platoons can employ that role.
After vegetation is cut, the MDD or MPL will be deployed for demining operations. Brush Cutters, MDD and
other platoons must use the same procedure.
The Expected Output from Demining Tool Integration:
1 BC: Landmine clearance at least 5-6 hectares per month integration with MPL or MDD.
1 MPL: Landmine clearance at least 3.5 – 5.5 hectares per month integration with BC.
1 MDD Team: Landmine clearance at least 3 – 5 hectares per month integration with BC.
Minefield Criteria for Demining Tool Integration:
Minefields with long grass, heavy bushes, thick crowed bamboo clumps, thick jungle, hard soil, rocky soil,
lateritic soil, un-flooded land, sloppy ground, un-sink soil and/or areas where there are no the big rocks.
High or low density of landmines and all types of UXOs (no limitation).
The advantage from Demining Tool Integration:
The possibility of conducting landmine operation for all minefield criteria.
Increased operational speed, higher productivity, time saved and cost reduction.
