PERSONAL
Dr. Bulent Urman born October 29, 1959 is currently living in Istanbul. He is the Head of
Obstetrics and Gynecology and Assisted Reproduction Unit in the American Hospital of Istanbul.
He is married and has two children.
EDUCATION AND WORK
Dr. Urman graduated from the University of Ankara Faculty of Medicine in 1982. After serving
two years as a General Practitioner he started residence training in Obstetrics and Gynecology
in the University of Hacettepe in Ankara. He completed his residence training in 1989. He
completed a threeyear fellow-ship program in Reproductive Endocrinology, Infertility and
Reproductive Surgery in the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He returned to
Turkey in 1991 and resumed his academic work in the University of Hacettepe Department of
Obstetrics and Gynecology. He became an assistant Professor in 1993, an Associate Professor
in 1995, and full Professor in 2011. He resigned from the University in 1996 and founded the
Assisted Reproduction Unit in the American Hospital of Istanbul, Turkey. He assumed the
position of chairman for the Assisted Reproduction Unit and Obstetrics and Gynecology since
that time. He has been a board member of the Turkish Society of Reproductive Medicine
between 2003 and 2005. He served as the general secretary of the Society between 2005 and
2007 and as the president between 2008-2012. He was recently appointed as Chairman of
Obstetrics and Gynecology to the Koc University Faculty of Medicine.
SPECIAL AREAS OF INTEREST
Dr. Urman has worked extensively in the fields of clinical assisted reproduction and
reproductive endocrinology. He also specializes in advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic
surgery. He has in excess of 120 international publications to his name. He has lectured in
numerous national and international meetings.
