In Libya, <strong>METAC</strong> assisted the authorities in<br />
producing a national CPI index to replace the<br />
Tripoli only index. Regarding the PPI, <strong>METAC</strong><br />
assisted in the development of the initial weighting<br />
scheme, and in the selection of a sample of<br />
establishments for price collection. The new CPI<br />
and PPI were released in May 2010.<br />
In Lebanon, <strong>METAC</strong> provided an assessment<br />
mission to the Central Administration of Statistics<br />
(CAS) to review the CPI, which was introduced in<br />
2008. <strong>METAC</strong> initiated work on the compilation<br />
of the PPI, which should be ready by 2011.<br />
In Yemen, <strong>METAC</strong> assisted the Central Statistical<br />
Office (CSO) in correcting a serious shortcoming<br />
in the calculation of the CPI index, which brings<br />
TA in this area to a close. Furthermore, <strong>METAC</strong><br />
assisted in setting the base for developing the PPI,<br />
which should be ready for publication in 2011.<br />
National Accounts<br />

In Yemen, <strong>METAC</strong> identified weaknesses and inconsistencies in the GDP series in current<br />
and constant prices, and provided advice on how to revise the economic surveys and their<br />
results to enhance the accuracy, reliability and the coverage of the GDP estimates. Revised<br />
GDP data were published in May 2010.<br />
In Sudan, <strong>METAC</strong> worked with the Central Bureau of Statistics to make better use of the<br />
2007 household survey and the 2001 manufacturing survey, and assisted in building the<br />
compilation software system for the NA.<br />
External Sector Statistics<br />
<strong>METAC</strong> assisted in:<br />
Improving basic balance of payments data collection procedures in Jordan, Lebanon, Libya,<br />
Syria, Sudan, West Bank and Gaza, and Yemen.<br />
Improving collection and compilation practices for remittances statistics in Jordan, Lebanon,<br />
and Syria.<br />
Introducing and providing advice on improving surveys for FDI statistics in Egypt, Libya,<br />
Sudan, Syria, and West Bank and Gaza.
