PED 3140 METHODS OF TEACHING SECONDARY<br />
PHYSICAL EDUCATION<br />
3 cr<br />
Principles and methods of teaching physical education for grades 7-12 are presented. Characteristics<br />
of learners, effective teaching techniques, unit and lesson planning, and implementation<br />
of lessons are emphasized. Laboratory experiences will involve microteaching in area schools.<br />
Prerequisite: PED 2410 and permission of the instructor. Spring.<br />
PED 3150 METHODS OF TEACHING HEALTH EDUCATION 3 cr<br />
This course is designed to provide students with principles, methods, and techniques that may<br />
be utilized for health promotion in schools and in community health settings. Students will have<br />
the opportunity to analyze fundamental concepts and skills that are essential in the development<br />
and success of school health programs. Students will develop different modes of health education<br />
presentation and evaluation; a major component of the latter will be the development of creative<br />
lesson plan/presentation formats directed at various ages in various settings. Fall.<br />
PED 3160 Legal and Ethical Principles in Sport 3 cr<br />
This course examines legal and ethical concepts related to sports administration, including<br />
participation and eligibility issues; constitutional due process; Title IX and other constitutional<br />
amendments; facility, coaching, and employment contracts; and tort law applications to participants<br />
and spectators. This course also provides some essential components, concepts, models, and<br />
techniques for students to use in managing ethical dilemmas and develop sound ethical practices.<br />
Prerequisite: PED 1350 or permission of the instructor. Spring.<br />
PED 3170 Seminar in Sports Information Practices 3 cr<br />
This course outlines the fundamentals of communicating in a sports environment in a seminar<br />
format. The topics include sports information in print and broadcast news, as well as communication<br />
in public relations. Principles of sports information including, computer applications and<br />
statistical methods in the collegiate and professional levels will be presented. Prerequisite: PED<br />
1350 and junior standing. Fall.<br />
PED 3310 ANALYSIS OF MOTOR SKILLS 3 cr<br />
Introduces skill analysis and correction (including feedback); progressions and content analysis;<br />
Rink’s extensions, refinements and applications; small and large group organization. Developmentally<br />
appropriate content is emphasized. Prerequisite: PED 2320, PED 2410 and PED<br />
2420. Fall.<br />
PED 3320 Teaching Team and Individual Motor Skills 3 cr<br />
This course presents the teaching and analysis of motor skill performance using several sport and<br />
game topics. Students will learn and apply the principles of planning, progression, extension,<br />
refinement, lesson organization, and the application of tactics and strategy to individual and team<br />
play. Video analysis and service learning teaching are incorporated into this course. Lab fee $20.<br />
Prerequisite: PED 2320, PED 2410 and PED 2420, Fall.<br />

Hours by arrangement. Prerequisite: Consent of the department chair. Signed contract required<br />
