Fair Work
Rights and Responsibilities for
South Australian Businesses
New Federal workplace relations laws came into effect on 1 July 2009, bringing significant changes for businesses,
such as greater risk of financial penalties for breaches of the laws, higher exposure to costly unfair dismissal claims
and greater powers for unions to enter workplaces and be involved in enterprise bargaining.
The Fair Work Booklet aims to provide practical advice and information to assist businesses covered by the Fair
Work Act 2009 in complying with the new laws and managing their employees by providing an overview of the
changes and obligations. The Booklet also includes summaries of the changes, examples and explanations, as
well as informing businesses of their rights and responsibilities, what they need to do to comply with the new
legislation, and any relevant transitional requirements that must be taken into consideration.
