New
Brunswick
R E P O R T
with Carolyn Wanamaker
Moving up
and moving
on
A beautiful fall ha more New
Brunswick equestrians than ever
involved in horse adventures. Fall is
the time of year for some of the largest
events in the horse show world, and
New Brunswick participants travelled
far and wide with their equine partners
to events such as the Quarter Horse
Congress in Ohio, the Morgan World
Championships in Oklahoma, the
Percheron World Congress in Maine,
and the Canadian Interprovincial
Equestrian Championships in Quebec.
These shows demonstrated the talent
of riders and horses we have here at
home. As we settle in for winter with
our horses, now is the time to start
planning our equine goals for 2015.
After many years of contributing
to the New Brunswick horse scene,
well-known Level 2 English coach
Ally Sillers has returned to Ontario.
Sillers certainly left her mark on
equestrians in New Brunswick. She
originally moved to the province to
coach at the Rothesay Pony Club, later
moved to the Fredericton Pony Club,
and then opened Callander Hall Stables
in New Maryland. It is hard to say how
many students got their start in riding
under her watchful eye. For several
years Sillers also volunteered her time
with the New Brunswick Equestrian
Association as the English coaching
coordinator. Her hallmark enthusiasm
and joy of teaching will be very much
missed as she moves on to her next
equine adventure. Best wishes from all
of us in New Brunswick on a continued
bright career in the horse industry.
New Brunswick Percherons made
their mark at the Percheron World
Congress. The live feed broadcasts
made it possible for fans at home to cheer
on the participants in some exciting
classes. Horses from Landslide Farms
(Matthew and Brenda Hornbrook),
Storeyvale Farm (John and Kim Storey),
and Eastwind Percherons (the Lyons
Family) competed at the Congress.
This great event showcased Percherons
in harness and under saddle, and even
featured Percheron barrel racing.
Congratulations to all who made the
trek to West Springfield, Maine.
Rayna and Ryson Doucet of
Lakeville, N.B., will also be making the
drive to West Springfield to participant
in two events at Equine Affaire. Ryson
and his barrel horse, Gangster, will be
riding in the Lynn McKenzie clinic, and
his young horse, Riot, will participate
Landslide Farms (Matthew and Brenda Hornbrook), Storyeyvale Farm (John and Kim Storey), and Eastwind Percherons
(the Lyons Family). (Lynn Cassels – Caldwell photo)
