SUCCESS ON THE GED TEST IS NOW JUST CLICKS AWAY IN MARYLAND
Adults to take advantage of new computerized benefits and testing offer
(Annapolis, Md.)— In striving to provide more adult learners throughout the state with a high school
credential and basic technology skills, Maryland recently partnered with GED Testing Service to offer the
GED test on computer. Testing began on March 28, 2013, and online registration and scheduling is now
available to test-takers.
“Moving the GED test to computer helps adults demonstrate necessary basic technology skills and makes
their testing process easier and more efficient,” said Randy Trask, president of GED Testing Service. “We
are so pleased that Maryland is our partner in this important endeavor.”
Several new services will streamline the testing process and benefit adult learners who often need to move
very quickly into jobs or training programs. New benefits include:
Online scheduling and registration that is available 24/7
More testing flexibility for test-takers: They can choose when and where to take their test
Enhanced test security
Most importantly, Maryland test-takers will now receive instant unofficial score reports after testing on
computer, a process that can take up to eight weeks on paper.
Computer-based testing is initially being offered in three locations across Maryland, before it is eventually
expanded statewide. The testing centers are located at:

Since last year’s launch, more than 70,000 computerized GED tests have been delivered across 41 states
and the District of Columbia with positive results for test-takers. GED Testing Service found that adults who
tested on computer had an 88 percent pass rate compared to 71 percent for those who tested on paper.
Adults who tested on computer completed their exams in five and half hours compared to about eight
hours on paper. And, adults who tested on computer were also 59 percent more likely to retake a failed test
instead of giving up and dropping out of the testing program.
The launch also allows adults in Maryland to take advantage of a new GED Testing Service program.
Through May 31, 2013 any adult in Maryland who begins their GED test on computer will receive one free

The English- and Spanish-language GED test on computer is the same test currently offered on paper and
pencil. Whether a candidate takes the test on paper or computer, it must be taken in person at an official
GED testing center. The GED test is never offered online. States currently offering the GED test on computer
are preparing for the new 2014 GED test, which will only be available on computer.
