THE GED® TEST ON
COMPUTER
What users are saying
The results are in. Across the country, adults are taking the 2002 Series
GED ® Test on computer and the feedback is overwhelmingly positive.
Professionals in the testing center are also pleased with the improved
process, increased security, and happy test-takers.
Easier in Mississippi
Alicia liked the ability to
register and schedule online.
“Very easy to [register and
schedule] and also very
convenient, since I didn’t
even have to leave my house.”
Shamir says, “Instructions
were very clear and easy to
understand.”
Austin found that testing on
computer offered him some
added flexibility. “When you
mess up on the essay, you
can go back and delete.”
Tyler commented on the less
stressful testing format. “I
don’t have to write or worry
about a bunch of papers.”
“Test-takers were computer savvy,”
said Jan West, a 30-year veteran
adult educator and director of the
GED ® testing program at Itawamba
Community College in MS. She has
seen decades of change within the
program and said her students were
comfortable on computers.
West said there are distinct benefits
to offering the test on computer.
Specifically, her center will be able to
offer more night and weekend time
slots for test-takers who work during
typical business hours.
“The people who have taken it said it
was a most pleasurable experience
and they would do it again in a
heartbeat.”
In late February Mississippi launched
four centers with the 2002 Series
GED ® Test on computer.

“I clicked my way to success!”
To prepare for the new assessment in 2014, GED
Testing Service is working with administrators to
launch 37 jurisdictions with testing on computer
before the end of 2012.
• 8 jurisdictions launched
(GA, IN, ND, MS, MN,
LA, TN, PA)
• 1,500 tests delivered on
computer
• 80% registered and
scheduled online; 20%
ND Builds Computers for GED ® Testing
If you build it, they will come. That’s North Dakota’s mindset at least.
When GED Testing Service announced computer-based testing, the
state was awarded a federal grant to buy computers. Sheyenne
Valley Area Career & Technology Center saw the state’s computer
shortfall as a learning opportunity.
Casey enjoyed taking his
test, on his time. “I was able
to speak to somebody quickly
about the time and place
of my testing. The whole
process was simple.”
“We asked if it would be okay if we built the computers for our
center,” said Frank Egan, technology coordinator at Sheyenne Valley.
The response: Why don’t you build computers for the entire state
Egan and seven entrepreneurial students accepted the challenge.
Computers built in his class are up and running in three of North
Dakota’s testing centers. There hasn’t been a single complaint yet,
Egan said.
North Dakota is currently planning for additional site launches
throughout 2012.
