Data connections between broadcast facilities are commonplace, but it takes more than a datapipe to enable true teamworking.
It takes Dino. Dino links Newsbox HD or Enterprise sQ systems together over a wide area network. Dino can share not only media
and flat files but also live edits with all their associated metadata. With Dino a system in New York can work with a system in LA
almost as if they were in the same building - with Dino distance is no object.

Dino manages the packet loss, latency and
interruptions in service which are inevitable
with a real-world WAN to give all users an
interactive browsing and editing experience.
Dino takes advantage of the seamless media
handling in sQ servers to get the most out of
the network bandwidth. Users can work with
browse media to speed response and Dino will
automatically move only the minimum amount
of broadcast media. For remote editing no
broadcast media has to move over the WAN.

Dino components
Dino is designed to work with networks offering
anything from around 50Mb/s all the way
through to 10Gb/s and can be specified to
handle many different demands. At its simplest
Dino can link two single sQ server systems
together and provide browse, editing and publish
capabilities between the systems. It can scale
all the way to linking multiple locations together
– each with multi-zone, multi-server systems;
every facility can see and teamwork with all
the others. Local caches can be used to boost
interactivity and media can be eagerly moved
between locations according to user defined

the network capacity.

Native AVCi support
Servers and seats can now support the MPEG-4
part 10 AVCi compression format. AVCi gives
you the choice of maximising HD quality without
increasing storage and bandwidth demands,
or maintaining quality and making big savings on
storage. This new format works alongside the
current DVCPRO HD and IMX SD formats used
in sQ allowing complete archive compatibility
and complete flexibility in the future. The sQ
environment supports not only mixed SD and HD
working but also mixed compression operation,
eliminating the complexity and wasted time of
transcodes. AVCi is supported throughout the
sQ system on all editing seats*, the sQ server
itself and in power portals for file i/o.
720/50p
Quattro also adds system-wide support for the
increasingly popular European 720/50p format.
720/50p is supported for video and file
ingest and with both DVCPRO HD and AVCi
compression.
* HDSDI seat ingest for AVCi will be supported in V4.1 software

First Essence driver for P2
Essence drivers are a new technology from
Quantel that allow sQ edit seats to work with
media without first locally importing it into their
workspace. This approach saves time and disk
space as only the frames that are actually used
ever get onto Quantel workspace. The first
essence driver supports the MXF Op-Atom
P2 media on memory cards or hard disks and
handles both the DV/DVCPRO/DVCPRO HD
and AVCi essence formats. P2 media can be
edited without first importing it, and the workflow
supports using partial clips and localizing or
publishing only the media actually used.
VDCP Protocol support
Many third party applications such as the
Ross Overdrive support the VDCP server
control protocol. A new option allows all these
applications to work with the sQ server. Up to
8 channels of VDCP control are provided and
the new option can control ports on different
sQ servers at the same time.
4 Channel playout control
A new control panel option for sQ Play supports
4 channel playout from a single panel. The panel
has a familiar layout that any control room
operator will be able to use instantly.

Quattro will be released as V4.0 software in
April 2008. At that time new issue support
for all versions of V2 software will cease as
described in the QCare terms and conditions.
New issues will continue to be supported on V3
software until V5 is released which is expected
to be April 2009. Customers upgrading to
Quattro that have QCare contracts including
‘point releases’ can expect two point releases
before V5 is released.

hardware configurations in use and for some
systems Quattro will be a simple software
upgrade. For others hardware upgrades may
be required or you may choose to add new
options at the same time as installing Quattro.
