All snow sports teams will attend this competition 

Snow Sports Rules 

The Official Special Olympics Sports rules shall govern all Special Olympics Snow Sports competitions and can 

be found at www.specialolympics.org/sports.aspx These rules are based upon the national governing bodies 

for each of the Snow Sports: 

• Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing & Snowboarding – US Ski & Snowboarding 

Association (USSA) - http://www.ussa.org/ 

• Snowshoeing – there is no national governing body 

National governing body rules shall be employed except when they are in conflict with the Official Special 

Olympics Sports rules and SOOR modifications. In such cases, the Official Special Olympics Sports rules and 

SOOR modifications shall apply 

Snow Sports General Information: 

• Athletes may compete in only 1 sport – Alpine, Snowboard, Cross Country or Snowshoe 

• Athletes may NOT compete in Individual events in different sports [Ex. 100M Snowshoe & 4x100 XC 

Relay or Alpine S and Snowboard GS] 

• List all 1:1 or Guides for Athletes on the registration. They may NOT provide a competitive advantage 

to the Athlete 

ALPINE SKIING: 

ALPINE SKIING – Events Offered 

Athlete may enter up to 3 events within same level 

Novice: 

- Slalom 

- Giant Slalom 

- Super G 

Intermediate: 

- Slalom 


- Super G 

Advanced: 

- Slalom 


- Super G

• Qualifying scores are NOT required for Alpine events 

• Alpine Athletes are required to wear a helmet 

• Alpine Athletes need to note the Level [Advanced, Intermediate or Novice] with the event 

• Alpine Athletes must actively train in the Super Giant Slalom event in order to compete in this event 

• Alpine 2 Minute Rule will be enforced – Per SOI Rules – Article II – Alpine Skiing – Section E-1F

• Please be sure all coaches/chaperones have a valid Class A form on file 

• Please be sure there is 1 coach/chaperone listed for every 3 athletes (additional needed if 1:1 required) 

• Please be sure each athlete listed has a current medical form (or Unified Partner form) on file 

• Please take care to spell names as they are spelled on submitted forms (i.e. medical, partner, or Class A)
