479. Heraeus Workshop: Physics at LHCb
Welcome to Physikzentrum Bad Honnef!

Brief history of the building of the
Physikzentrum Bad Honnef
1897: Merchant Otto Hölterhoff donated his entire fortune to Bonn University with the
Duty “Elly-Hölterhoff-Böcking-Foundation” to run a home for unmarried ladies of
higher decent who are supposed to run a household school.
1906: Building was finished and school started
1940: Occupied by german armed force, after the war home for refugees
1947: Used again by Bonn University for Research and Education and as home for
widows of professors of the university
1976: Bad Honnef Physikszentrum was founded as center for physics schools and
workshops, supported by DPG (german physics association), Bonn University
& federal state Nordrhein-Westfalen
since 2010: remodelling of the building
Current main destination:
- DPG summer schools on advanced topics of modern physics
- Training of high school teachers in physics
- Research seminars on special fields of physics - main location for Heraeus seminars
- Contact seminars on professional problems of specific groups of physicists

Heraeus-Seminars
- Scholarship of Heraeus-Foundation
(Dr. E. Dreisigacker will introduce “Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Stiftung”)
- from “users” perspective:
- no need to worry about any administrative issues
(booking of conference site, hotels, letters to participants, travel costs, ..)
secretary of Heraeus foundation & local team of Physikzentrum are a very
experienced team – many thanks to Mrs. Lang
- all costs of accommodation and partially travel costs are covered by scholar ship
- scientific organizers can purely focus on the physics content of the workshop
- great tool to encourage physics discussions – especially interesting for
younger physicists

Programme
LHCb has a well established core physics programme including CPV and searches
for rare decays devoted to the search for new physics in the B system
First very successful steps towards many of these measurements shown on this year
winter conferences (see summary in Guy's talk)
This workshop will focus on non-core topics!
Aim is to encourage non-mainstream analysis in order to broaden and enrich
LHCb physics programme. Maybe even some new ideas will come up …
(there are many topics which are not covered in this workshop)

Wednesday morning: Introduction Spectroscopy and Production
Wednesday afternoon, Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon:
parallel sessions on specialized topics
Friday morning: Overview on LHCb Upgrade and summary of parallel sessions
Wednesday evening: workshop dinner
