Description: The Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve (JC NERR) is one of the 28<br />

national estuarine reserves created to promote the responsible use <strong>and</strong> management of the nation's<br />

estuaries through a program combining scientific research, education, <strong>and</strong> stewardship.<br />

Description: Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH) is a university-wide initiative working to address the issues of<br />

Description: The Department of 4-H Youth Development is engaging youth in Science, Technology,<br />

Science Saturday programs invite middle school youth to work with university faculty on themed h<strong>and</strong>s<br />

on science programs. The Climate <strong>and</strong> Environmental Change Teen Summit, brings 150 high school<br />

youth on campus to explore the issues related to climate change with engaging workshops with<br />

university scientists. The 4-H Summer Science program is designed <strong>for</strong> high school youth from New<br />

Jersey urban areas. Approximately 55 rising ninth graders attend an intensive one-week residential<br />

Description: New Jersey Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education (SNAP-Ed) provides<br />

Description: Rutgers Gardens is the botanical garden <strong>for</strong> Rutgers University. Located on the Cook<br />

Campus, the gardens encompass nearly 180 acres of maintained <strong>and</strong> natural areas. The Gardens<br />

features a series of horticultural collections arranged in garden settings <strong>and</strong> spread over fifty acres—<br />

these collections <strong>and</strong> garden areas, the oldest of which dates back to 1927, feature a diverse variety of<br />

Description: The Writing <strong>Center</strong>s, located on Busch, Livingston, <strong>and</strong> College Avenue campuses, are<br />

united by a common philosophy, called minimalist tutoring. Minimalist tutoring strengthens reading <strong>and</strong><br />

writing skills by asking students to practice under the supervision of a more experienced writer, who<br />

acts as a coach rather than an editor. Writing Tutors can expect sessions to be scheduled <strong>for</strong> one eightyminute<br />

class period per week <strong>for</strong> at least five weeks, <strong>and</strong> are available to RU students free of charge.<br />

Students are tutored in the full range of expository writing, from basic composition to advanced<br />

research, business, <strong>and</strong> scientific writing courses.<br />
