Quiksilver Open Water
Outriggerrace
28-29 June 2008 at
Hoek van Holland,
The Netherlands
Invitation and Information Bulletin 1, Mai 12th, 2008
Aloha to all Outriggerpaddlers,
On June 28th and 29th, the first Quiksilver Outrigger Open Water in Holland will
be organised. This event is to promote OC6 racing and will take place alongside
the “King of the Groms” surfcontest at Hoek van Holland.
In this surfcontest, young guys from all over northern Europe, can show there
skills in order to qualify for the World finals in Hossegor, France. This great event
will give us, Outriggerfanatics, the perfect stage to show our joy in Open Ocean
Outriggerracing and to introduce our sport to the public and media.
Our main goal is to organize an OC6 racing event with a short distance
competition on Saturday afternoon and long distance racing on Sunday morning.
But of course, OC1 paddlers are more than welcome to join us for this weekend.
On Saturday evening we will ask your assistance. The owners and personnel of
Quiksilver clothing- and equipmentshops will be invited for a short distance
Outriggerrace. This is called the “Shop Battle”. We ask for your co-operation and
expertise to train these people and guide them during the race. Weather
permitting, 2 experienced (one steering and one at no. 3 seat guarding the ama)
and 4 inexperienced competitors are on a team. We expect 5 of 6 teams.
Location
On the beach of Hoek van Holland, near Rotterdam, city of sports.
Detailed info in the next bulletin.

Dinner (BBQ) and coupons for drinks on Saturday evening will
be provided.
I still have to see if breakfast on Sunday
morning can be provided. More on this in the next bulletin.
In the Netherlands there’s only one OC6 and 2 OC1’s in racing
condition available. Therefore I need you to bring your canoes
and paddles to Hoek van Holland. Don’t forget your life vests
and spray cover!
If you’re able to bring more than one boat and you are willing
to lend it to other teams, that would be great. Then other
Dutch teams can join in on the short distance race.
For the shop battle we need you to lend us your paddle too. If
you have extras, please bring!
