Die älteste deutsche Spezialfabrik für Bestecke und
Serviergeräte für die Hotellerie wurde bereits 1863
von den Brüdern Carl und Otto Hepp in Pforzheim
gegründet.
Dem Chemiker Carl Hepp gelang es damals, ein Verfahren
zu entwickeln, wie man eine dicke Silberschicht
auf ein Grundmaterial aufbringen konnte, welches das
damals noch geläufige, teure Vollsilber ablösen sollte.
Das Gebrüder Hepp 90, als „Hotel-Silber“ bekannt,
hielt schnell seinen Siegeszug in den führenden Hotels
und Schifffahrtslinien.
In den frühen sechziger Jahren wurde aufgrund von
neuen Erfahrungen und Weiterentwicklungen in der
Fertigung das Grundmaterial Alpaka immer mehr
durch das neue Material, Edelstahl 18/10, ersetzt, das
auch versilbert, vielseitig eingesetzt werden konnte.
The oldest special factory for cutlery and service equipment
for the hotel industry in Germany was founded in
1863 by the brothers Carl and Otto Hepp in Pforzheim.
The chemist Carl Hepp then succeeded in developing
a method of applying a thick layer of silver to a base
material which was intended as a substitute for products
made of pure silver which was still capable
of meeting the tough demands of the gastronomy
industry. The „Gebrüder Hepp 90“, also known as
„Hotel-Silber“, was quickly hailed a great success in
the leading hotels and shipping lines.
Due to new experiences and developments in the
early sixties in manufacturing, the base material nickel
silver was increasingly replaced by 18/10 stainless steel,
a versatile new material which could also be silver-plated.
