Biographies of the Performers<br />
Irene Lee, a junior at Albemarle High School, has played violin for eight years. A member of several music<br />
ensembles in her school, she also performs with the Albemarle String Ensemble and the Youth Orchestra of<br />
Charlottesville-Albemarle. In addition, she participated in the Fall 2010 Senior Regional Orchestra.<br />
Perry Maddox has studied piano for 12 years and oboe for 7 years. A senior at Broadway High School, he is in its<br />
Wind Symphony, Honors Choir, and Jazz Ensemble, and has participated in regional ensembles, recently on tenor<br />
sax in the all-VA Jazz Ensemble and principal oboe in the all-VA Orchestra.<br />
Emily Maldonado has studied harp for nine years with Jessica Frost-Ballas, Elizabeth Robinson, and Kathy Pierce. A<br />
homeschooled junior, she has performed in a variety of settings such as the Waynesboro Symphony, the<br />
Governor’s School for the Arts, and at Kennedy Center with the McLean Youth Orchestra. She enjoys philately,<br />
reading, and horseback riding.<br />
Isabelle Schoppa is a sophomore at Charlottesville High School. She is a member of the String Ensemble orchestra<br />
and a string quartet, which performs at weddings and other social functions. She has attended Senior Regional<br />
Orchestra for two years and participated in the VCU Orchestra Program last summer, as well as attending other<br />
chamber music camps. In school she enjoys science and math.<br />
Mariette Southard is a sophomore at Turner Ashby High School. A member of the TA Singers, she has also studied<br />
violin for thirteen years and piano for three years. She has been a member of the Shenandoah Valley Youth<br />
Symphony since 2004 and has participated for the past two years in the South Central Senior Regional Orchestra in<br />
Richmond. Mariette studies violin with Dr. Joan Griffing.<br />
Shaarada Srivatsa, a freshman at Charlottesville High School, has studied violin with Susan Black since the age of 5<br />
and began piano the same year. Having attended several chamber music workshops at UVA and the Village School<br />
and placing 3 rd in the 2009 Charlottesville Wednesday Music Club competition, she is also a member of the Youth<br />
Orchestras of Charlottesville and Albemarle and concertmaster in her school orchestra.<br />
Vivek Srivatsa is a sophomore at Charlottesville High School. He has studied violin with Susan Black for 10 years.<br />
He plays in his high school orchestra and in Youth Orchestra of Charlottesville, Albemarle. In addition to several<br />
chamber music workshops at the <strong>University</strong> of Virginia, he attended Wintergreen Summer Music Academy for the<br />
past 2 years. He has also studied piano for the past 6 years.<br />
Courtney Stout, who began taking kindermusic at age two, has played in recitals at the Staunton morning music<br />
club and the P Buckley Moss Museum, plays regularly at church, and performed at the Augusta Health Hospital<br />
with the Augusta County Junior Orchestra. A sophomore clarinet player at Wilson Memorial High School, she has<br />
also participated in the All County Honors Band.<br />
Caroline Walsh, a junior at Stuart Hall and a flute student of Elizabeth Brightbill, has also studied piano, viola, and<br />
voice. A member of the Stuart Hall Orchestra and the Shenandoah Valley Youth Symphony, she was also selected<br />
for the Senior Regional Orchestra and for VMEA’s All-Virginia Chorus. She enjoys learning about other cultures,<br />
customs and languages.<br />
Evan White, a freshman at EMHS, has studied piano for ten years; her teachers have been Dr. Lynne Mackey and<br />
Sandy Williams. She has sung in the Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir for 9 years, placed first in district band in<br />
both timpani and mallets, and has played percussion with the Shenandoah Valley Youth Symphony, Massanutten<br />
Youth Brass Band, and EMHS and EMU orchestras. Evan has lived in Italy, France, and the UK.<br />
Mary Wynn Willson, a homeschooled tenth grader from Fort Defiance, VA, began Suzuki violin lessons at age<br />
three. She has studied with Julie Wilkinson, Maria Lorcas, Sonja Dillard, and, currently, Joan Griffing. She also takes<br />
piano lessons. A member of several orchestras over the years, she is currently in the Youth Orchestra of<br />
Charlottesville. In her spare time she enjoys riding horses and spending time with her nine brothers and sisters.
