Announcing the 23 rd ANNUAL "DELTA DAYS IN THE NATION’S CAPITAL"
February 4 – February 7, 2012
I am pleased to announce that the 23 rd Annual "Delta Days in the Nation’s Capital" will be held February 4-7, 2012 at
The Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center located at 201 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD 20745. Please
note that the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center is just a 15-minute drive from Reagan National Airport
(DCA) and within a 45-minute drive from Dulles (IAD) and Baltimore Washington International (BWI) Airports.
Under the theme “Advocacy in Action: A Stronger Presence—A Stronger Voice,” we will focus on creating ongoing
legislative solutions for the communities that we serve. This year’s legislative conference will continue to build upon
Delta Sigma Theta’s legacy of advocacy and political activism. We will be discussing some of the most pressing issues
impacting African-American communities including voter suppression, education, healthcare, employment, economic
viability, and the importance of voter participation at all levels of government to name a few. Our goal is to not only
discuss these issues, but to develop solutions to share with our elected officials and members of their staff. We plan to
leave the conference informed and empowered to continue to serve as catalysts for change in our communities.
Once again, the national second vice president, regional representatives, and collegiate social action commissioners will
host the Annual Collegiate Forum on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Speakers will include national and local young
professionals and activists, including collegiate sorors who are impacting policies at the federal and state levels.
The Social Action Commission will conduct an orientation for first-time attendees on Saturday, February 4, 2012,
tentatively scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. The workshop will cover the basics of social action in Delta including vital
"how to’s" on navigating the legislative process, legislative letter writing, congressional testimony, resolution writing, and
coalition building. The orientation is open to all registrants on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration is limited to the
first 150 sorors.
On-line registration for "Delta Days in the Nation’s Capital" will open on November 18, 2011 and close on Wednesday,
January 6, 2012 at 12:00 noon EST. THERE IS NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION. Registration fees are as follows:
Alumnae
- Legislative conference $175.00
- Collegiate Forum (Advisors only) $50.00
Collegiate
- Delta Days legislative conference $125.00
- Collegiate Forum only $50.00
- Legislative Conference and Collegiate Forum $175.00
Please be advised that registration fees are NOT refundable. All registration payments made by cashier’s check or
money order must be postmarked by, January 6, 2012 to allow time for processing.
The hotel room rate is $209.00 per night for single or double occupancy, excluding 6% sales tax and 10% occupancy tax.
The deadline for Delta’s special room rate is Wednesday, January 4, 2012. After that date, you must contact the
hotel directly. Please note that after the cut-off date, the hotel cannot guarantee availability or discounted group
rates for the Sorority’s block of rooms. Complete hotel information will be available upon completion of your
registration.

Alumnae chapters and sorors are asked to send at least two representatives and to sponsor at least one collegiate soror.
Please contact your regional director or regional representative if you are interested in sponsoring a collegiate soror.
Chapter advisors are urged to work with social action commissioners, regional officers and chapter presidents to help
facilitate sponsorships.
Please note that the attire for Delta Days is business professional, sorors are encouraged to wear red on Tuesday, February
7, 2012 for Capitol Hill visits.
