program west <strong>of</strong> the Mississippi<br />

River.<br />

A 22% increase in demand for pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

social workers is predicted during 2006-16, which<br />

is much faster than the average for all occupations.<br />

96 pr<strong>of</strong>essional degrees<br />

were awarded in 2010-11 (42<br />

BSW and 54 MSW).<br />

• The <strong>SSW</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers the only publicly sponsored PhD<br />

program in <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Work</strong> in the state <strong>of</strong> Missouri.<br />

• The <strong>SSW</strong> and the Department <strong>of</strong> Personal Financial<br />

Planning have collaborated to provide a minor in<br />

Financial Literacy for Helping Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />

• In fall 2011, ranked <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Work</strong> faculty<br />

taught 4,212 student credit hours. Ranked faculty<br />

includes all tenure-track and non-regular assistant,<br />

associate and full pr<strong>of</strong>essors.<br />

Field awards<br />

• Aneisa Sherrill-Mattox, MSW, LCSW, executive director<br />

at Welcome Home, housing for homeless veterans -<br />

MSW Field Instructor <strong>of</strong> the Year, May 2012.<br />

• Kristi Turner, MSW, LCSW, shelter director at Rainbow<br />

House, emergency shelter for children - BSW Field<br />

Instructor <strong>of</strong> the Year, December 2011.<br />

• Christina Montgomery, BSW, received the MSW Field<br />

Instructor <strong>of</strong> the Year award in May 2011.<br />

Development & alumni<br />

• The <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Work</strong> has 25 endowed scholarships<br />

presently. In 2011-12, there were 29 scholarships<br />

awarded.<br />

• In summer 2011, the <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Work</strong> Alumni Association<br />

won 2nd place in the new member recruitment contest<br />

for small schools/colleges with fewer than 4,000 members.<br />

The $250 prize was used for a summer scholarship<br />

for Daniel Stribling.<br />

• Stan Remer, MSW ‘68, was selected the 2012 Faculty<br />

Member <strong>of</strong> the Year for Valley Forge Christian College –<br />

Woodbridge campus (Va.).<br />

Grants and research<br />

• In fiscal year 2011, the <strong>School</strong> was awarded $883,462 in<br />

external grant awards; only two other departments in the<br />

College had more grant awards.<br />

• The largest award in 2011 was from the Mo. Dept. <strong>of</strong> <strong>Social</strong><br />

Services; this contract provided more than $300,000<br />

to support part-time course work, leading to the MSW<br />

degree for 38 students.<br />
