The students are required to attend religious exercises which<br />

are held at the beginning of every school day, and are required<br />

to attend divine service on Sunday morning at some church in<br />

Westminster. The following denominations are represented<br />

in the city: Methodist Protestant, Methodist Episcopal, Protestant<br />

Episcopal, Roman Catholic, Reformed, Lutheran and<br />

German Baptist. The church affiliations of students will be<br />

scrupulously respected, and only those will be required to attend<br />

the Methodist Protestant Church who have no church of<br />

their own in the city.<br />

On Sunday evening services are conducted in Baker Chapel<br />

by the President, which the students are required to attend.<br />

The Young Men's Christian Association and the Young Women's<br />

Christian Association have each a branch association in<br />

the College and rooms fitted up for religious services. On Sunday<br />

afternoon a voluntary meeting of the two associations is<br />

held, conducted by the Y. M. C. A. The Sunday School beld<br />

on Sunday morning is one of our most important religious<br />

factors. Though attendance is not compulsory, all the students<br />

usually enroll themselves as scholars. The classes are taught<br />

by members of the Faculty, and the lessons used are those of<br />

the International Series.<br />

Literary Societies<br />

The Irving and Webster Literary Societies of young men,<br />

and the Browning and Philomathean Societies of young women<br />

hold regular meetings, and it is the desire of the Faculty that<br />

all the students avail themselves of the advantages of these<br />

valuable and instructive organizations. No fraternities are<br />

permitted in the College.<br />

On Tuesday evening of Commencement Week there is an<br />

oratorical and literary contest between the Irving and the<br />

Webster Societies, and between the Browning and the Philo-
