S U M M A R Y P ROF I L E<br />
Prior to her doctoral and post-doctoral studies, <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Patricia</strong> M. <strong>Barbetta</strong> served as a teacher, program supervisor, and<br />
education director during her 11 years at a school in Pennsylvania for students with emotional and behavioral disorders.<br />
She became an Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor at FIU in 1992 and, in 1996, she was awarded a University Excellence in Teaching<br />
Award. In 1997, she was promoted to Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor with tenure, and the following year, she was selected as a<br />
Department Chairperson. She served in that position for four years. In 2007, she was awarded the COE’s Builder’s and<br />
Frost Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Awards. She has numerous publications in special education journals and has been awarded multiple<br />
federal, state, and local grants (nearly $8.70 million as <strong>of</strong> Spring 2014). From 2008-2012, she served as the COE<br />
Associate Dean <strong>of</strong> Graduate Studies. Currently, she is an Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor in special education in the Department <strong>of</strong><br />
Teaching and Learning.<br />
