FAQ

Who is eligible for “free” busing this school year
All regular education students residing 2 or more miles from their home campus are eligible to
receive free bus services for the Spring Semester for 2012-2013, which begins on January
23, 2013. In order to receive busing you must have registered for bus services at least one
time this school year. If you registered your child in the Fall semester you will not be required
to re-register for the Spring semester.
Students who reside 2 or more miles from their home campus are eligible to register for bus
services at kisd.busrideonline.com

What if I live less than 2 miles from my home campus
Students who reside under the 2 mile radius will be eligible to apply for busing with a fee of
$75.00 per semester, per student. This busing will be provided on a first come, first served and
space available basis. These students will be allowed to ride existing buses that are already in
their neighborhoods. Additional bus stops will NOT be provided in neighborhoods with
existing bus stops.

Do I have to register for kisd.busrideonline.com
All students must register for transportation once a year in order to receive a bus stop and their
Authorized Bus Rider Card. All students must have and carry their Authorized Bus Rider Card
with them in order to board the bus.
Students/Parents may register online for busing at kisd.busrideonline.com. Only students
residing within the 2 mile radius to their home campus will be required to pay the $75.00 per
semester fee.
Cash and check payments for students residing within the 2 mile radius will be accepted. To
make a Cash/Check payment you must do so in person. Please visit Barbara Johnson at the
Keller ISD Administration offices located at 350 Keller Parkway, Keller, TX. Students MUST
be registered by December 14, 2012 in order to receive a bus stop by January 23, 2013.
**Please note that Barbara cannot help process credit card payments through the online
payment system for transportation.

How do I know if I live over 2 miles from my home campus and receive free
transportation
There are 3 ways to determine if you are eligible for FREE busing. The first would be to
measure the shortest distance travelled (in your personal vehicle) on public roadways from the
door of your home/mailbox to the flagpole of your child’s campus. If the distance is 1.999
miles or under you do not qualify for FREE busing and must pay to ride the bus. Apartment
complexes are measured from the front of the Apartment offices to the nearest driveway of
your campus.

The second way would be to logon to kisd.busrideonline.com. When logging onto the
website it will tell you if you owe the $75.00 payment for the semester or if your busing is free
of charge. If there is a payment due then you are under the 2 mile eligibility guidelines.
.
The 3 rd way would be to contact your child’s campus for this information.
When can I register for the Spring semester 2012-2013
Bus registration will be open beginning December 1, 2012. All students that have not
previously registered this school year must register by December 14, 2012 in order to
receive a bus stop by January 23, 2013.

If I paid for bus services for the Fall semester what do I need to do for the Spring
semester
Students living 2 or more miles from their home campus do NOT need to re-register to receive
transportation. Stops have already been created for your children so there is no need to reregister.
Students living under 2 miles from their home campus MUST go online and
register and pay for bus services to receive transportation to and from school.

I live over 2 miles from my home campus and have not used transportation
services this school year. What do I do to get a bus stop near my home
In order to receive a stop near your home you must go online to register for bus services by
December 14, 2012. Stops will be available to all registered students by January 14, 2013.
Any student that registers after December 14, 2012 will not receive a bus stop
until January 28 th , 2013. If you register your student after January 28 th a bus stop will be
provided within 3 to 5 days of registration. If you have registered and still do not have a stop,
please contact the transportation office at 817-744-1300.

What if my campus has never received any busing
Many of our Elementary School campuses do not qualify for busing. Due to school boundaries
all homes assigned to these campuses are inside the 2 mile radius. In order to receive a bus for
these areas we must have at least 50 paid riders to provide bus services.
If I live less than 2 miles from my campus and pay for bus service will I receive
service on the first day of the semester
Service will be provided the first day of the semester to students who already have an existing
stop in their neighborhood. If you do not have a stop in your neighborhood or you are at a
campus that service is being provided due to demand there may be a 2 week waiting period for
bus services. If service cannot be provided to you after the 2 week waiting period you will be
issued a refund.

What if I live outside my school zone and want transportation
Unfortunately, there is no transportation provided for students who live outside of their school
zone.
How many students are allowed on a school bus
School buses are designed to hold 3 children to each seat. This is regulated by The Department
of Transportation and Federal law. Most school buses are designed to transport either 72
passengers or 84 passengers.
We will not allow a school bus to exceed the DOT thresholds at any time. Please be aware
though that the buses may be used to their full capacity. For safety reasons every effort will be
made to keep our maximum number of riders to a smaller capacity than allowed by DOT
recommendations.
