Caroline Power and Phyllis Westbury spend
the summer at their cottage on Ponhook
Lake. They volunteer for the Nova Scotia
Nature Trust as rare plant monitors
and record the distribution and
abundance of rare Atlantic Coastal
Plain Flora species in their area.
Caroline is a talented artist and
paints Atlantic Coastal Plain
Flora watercolours. They both
appreciate the diversity of
wildlife around them and
share their lake shoreline with Eastern
Ribbonsnakes, Redroot, and Golden
Crest. A number of additional Atlantic
Coastal Plain Flora can be found along
their shoreline including Golden-pert,
Virginia Meadow Beauty, Grass Pink, and
Spatulate-leaved Sundew. To minimize
impacts to these species and to the rest
of the native vegetation, they have
left their shoreline and riparian
area in its natural state and have
built a floating dock.
