DAY 2<br />
Hadrian’s Wall and Kielder Water<br />
After breakfast we have a full-day tour, taking the journey east passing Hadrian’s Wall. Stop to take<br />
in the sights of this Roman Wall stretching 73 miles from South Shields to Ravenglass. Onwards to<br />
Kielder Water and Forest Park where we board the Osprey Ferry navigating the biggest man-made<br />
lake in northern Europe. This is the best way to explore this outstanding area.<br />
DAY 3<br />
Dumfries and Sweetheart Abbey<br />
A short drive to the Scottish border town of Dumfries, known as the Queen of the South. You have<br />
time to explore the town and its many shops, cafes and restaurants. Dumfries is where Robert Burns<br />
spent the last years of his life, and a statue in the middle of the town represents his influence here.<br />
After lunch, take the short journey to the 700-year-old Sweetheart Abbey built by Lady Devorgilla in<br />
memory of her husband John Balliol.<br />
DAY 4<br />
North Western Lakes<br />
Depart hotel after an early breakfast heading towards Cockermouth past Sellafield and its Visitor<br />
Centre to Ravenglass, where you join the 14-mile steam ride to the pretty Lakeland village of Boot, in<br />
the shadow of Skafell Pike, England’s highest mountain. From here travel to the haunted historical<br />
13th century Muncaster Castle & Gardens, with free-time to roam. There are daily “birds of prey”<br />
displays at the at the World Owl Centre - one of the largest collections of thrilling birds in the world.<br />
Returning via Lake Bassenthwaite and Penrith.<br />
