My name is Ian; I’m an engineer<br />

at a computer hard disk drive<br />

manufacturer. A couple of years ago<br />

we were in the process of developing<br />

a new optical disk drive and our<br />

intention was to purchase low power<br />

optical components from a few<br />

different suppliers to help us decide<br />

which supplier to use.<br />

So we purchased low power optical<br />

components from five suppliers<br />

who naturally, all promised us<br />

that their components were fully<br />

reliable. We still weren’t certain<br />

on which laser suppliers to choose<br />

because we weren’t convinced<br />

about their reliability.<br />

We asked ourselves several questions<br />

such as:<br />

• How much would our warranty<br />

costs increase if our laser failed<br />

early?<br />

• How high would our support costs<br />

be due to failures in the field?<br />

• How would an early failed laser<br />

affect our company reputation?<br />

• How will a failed laser affect our<br />

client’s uptime?<br />

• How much time would our<br />

company spend diagnosing the<br />

cause of failed lasers?<br />

We knew we needed to protect<br />

against the worst happening and felt<br />

the best plan of action was to test<br />

the laser diodes reliability, so we did<br />

a bit of online research and <strong>Yelo</strong>’s<br />

website popped up.<br />

We found <strong>Yelo</strong> very quick at<br />

responding to our query. We explained<br />

our situation to them: we want to<br />

test a range of low power optical<br />

components but we aren’t sure what<br />

Test recipe set-up<br />

interface which allows you to set up test recipes<br />

voltage settings, test duration and frequency of<br />

test measurements. Make light-current-voltage<br />

(LIV) sweeps and spot measurements easily to<br />

determine the operating characteristics of your<br />

laser diode. Save time by setting all module<br />

parameters (drive current, temperature,<br />

burn-in time etc.) independently for a more<br />

flexible test, control your laser using<br />

constant Automatic Current Control (ACC)<br />

Recommended test pad diameter = 1.5mm<br />

The maximum number of pogo pin probes is limited to 100 probes,<br />

because above 70 probes, an operator cannot close the lid onto the<br />

PCB as the force required is too great.<br />

We can provide you with a range of<br />

fully wired test fixtures for bed of<br />

nails. In-circuit test or functional test<br />

of printed circuit boards or assembled<br />

products. The fixture kits can be<br />

powered and controlled by the <strong>Yelo</strong><br />

Testpoint range of instruments or<br />

PXI instrumentation or even using<br />

manually operated switches.<br />

HOW TO COMPLETE YOUR FIXTURE<br />

Simply drill holes on your CNC for the<br />

pogo pins in the probe plate to match<br />

up with your PCB, fit and wire the<br />

pogo pins and mount any additional<br />

golden unit PCBs, microprocessor<br />

programmers or instruments inside.<br />

CAM-OPERATED TEST FIXTURE KIT<br />

Use for PCBs with more than 70 probes.<br />

Recommended test pad diameter = 1.0mm<br />

Includes cam-operated lever.<br />

The lever action provides the force required to close the lid onto<br />

the PCB, useful to press probes against your PCB and allows you<br />

to use more than 100 probes.<br />
