My name is Ian; I’m an engineer
at a computer hard disk drive
manufacturer. A couple of years ago
we were in the process of developing
a new optical disk drive and our
intention was to purchase low power
optical components from a few
different suppliers to help us decide
which supplier to use.
So we purchased low power optical
components from five suppliers
who naturally, all promised us
that their components were fully
reliable. We still weren’t certain
on which laser suppliers to choose
because we weren’t convinced
about their reliability.
We asked ourselves several questions
such as:
• How much would our warranty
costs increase if our laser failed
early?
• How high would our support costs
be due to failures in the field?
• How would an early failed laser
affect our company reputation?
• How will a failed laser affect our
client’s uptime?
• How much time would our
company spend diagnosing the
cause of failed lasers?
We knew we needed to protect
against the worst happening and felt
the best plan of action was to test
the laser diodes reliability, so we did
a bit of online research and Yelo’s
website popped up.
We found Yelo very quick at
responding to our query. We explained
our situation to them: we want to
test a range of low power optical
components but we aren’t sure what

Test recipe set-up
Take advantage of a clean, user-friendly
interface which allows you to set up test recipes
– including module temperature, current and
voltage settings, test duration and frequency of
test measurements. Make light-current-voltage
(LIV) sweeps and spot measurements easily to
determine the operating characteristics of your
laser diode. Save time by setting all module
parameters (drive current, temperature,
burn-in time etc.) independently for a more
flexible test, control your laser using
constant Automatic Current Control (ACC)
or Automatic Power Control (APC).
Get the information you need when, where,
and how you want
ReliaBILT 2015 makes it easy for you to
review your test data in graphs, select one
or all devices and change legends or ranges
to view the important test data. The raw test
data can be exported in CSV format to be
reviewed in Excel offline.

The maximum number of pogo pin probes is limited to 100 probes,
because above 70 probes, an operator cannot close the lid onto the
PCB as the force required is too great.
