with the next age group (either older or younger) of the same sex.
1 st to 5 th placed horses in ECAHO classes are qualified to compete at the so called “Title Shows” (Middle East
Championships, European Championships, All Nations Cup and World Championships)
Scoring System.
1. Methods of judging the classes
Judges judge each class independently from one another and without catalogue according to the following criteria: type,
head and neck, body and topline, legs, movement, based on the 20-points-system. The points awarded by the judges will
be added and divided by the number of judges.
2. Rule for ties
In the event of a tie the higher place will be given to the horse with the most points for type. If there is still a tie, the higher
place will be given to the horse with the most points in movement. Failing a decision on either of these, one judge, chosen
by ballot, will name his preference.
3. Championships
Championships are not given according to the results achieved in the preceding classes. All Championships will be judges
independently and comparatively.
Methods and rules for judging Championships
Championships will be judged comparatively as follows:
a) First-placed horses will line up in order of age from their right (youngest on the right) with second-placed horses lined
up behind them in the same order.
b) Judges will examine all first-placed horses, individually standing and trotting. The judges must not confer.
c) The champion is selected from the horses in the front rank by individual written votes from each judge. The best placed
horse will be champion (see championship form). In the event of a tie, the horse that received the highest number of points
in its class will be declared champion. In the event of a further tie, the "Rules for Ties in Qualifying Places" will apply.
d2) When the champion has been selected the reserve will be selected in the same way from the other first-placed horses,
together with the horse placed second to the champion.
There is also a requirement for a third placed champion to be nominated after the Champion and Reserve have been
chosen. This third placed champion will not be announced officially, but it will become Reserve Champion in the event of
the disqualification of the Champion or Reserve Champion. If the third placed champion is not apparent from the voting
papers, the judges will be asked to nominate one. In the event that both the Champion and the Reserve Champions are
disqualified, no further substitution will be made, apart from the third placed champion moving up to be Champion.
e) In order to maintain suspense among the spectators all the second-placed horses may be walked and trotted, but only the
horse placed second to the champion will be considered.
f) The judges' votes will be available at the show office immediately after the judging has finished.
g) In the event of a horse placed first in its class being unable to take part in the championship, the horse placed second in
the class will move forward and be judged with the other horses placed first. Should a horse placed first be sent out of the
ring by the judges for any reason it will be deemed to have taken part in
the championship and, therefore, the second placed horse will not be judged with the other first placed horses.
Substitutions for absent first-placed or second placed horses by third-placed or lower-ranked horses will not be permitted.
h) All horses that qualify for their respective championships must take part in the championship. Unless a veterinary
certificate is produced, failure to compete will disqualify the horse from the show, with its record of score and class
placing being deleted and the horse being disqualified from showing for the period of one year as from the date of the
show. In the event of a disqualification, horses placed below the disqualified horse will move up a place in the class but
not be entitled to enter the championship.
4. Methods of judging the Non-ECAHO Classes
Classes will be judges comparatively by a three judge system.
The Call Judge shall instruct the Ring Master prior to the start of the class on how he/she intends to run the class. The Call
Judge will maintain order of the class through the Ring Master.
All horses entered in the class shall enter the ring, at a trot, one after another, in an anti-clockwise direction and upon
completing their circuit line up along the rail and wait until all horses are in the ring.
Once all horses are in the ring, the horses will be walked collectively in an anti-clockwise circular direction using as much
of the ring as is deemed necessary.
Whilst the horses are walking, and before beginning individual inspections, the Call Judge shall instruct the Ring Master to
call all the exhibits in to a preliminary line up. All horses remain in the show ring.
Each horse will then be called forward for an individual inspection.
Once all entries have been individually judges, final evaluations will be made. Each judge will mark his / her card
independently of the other judges.
The judge shall judge all horses equally and not drawn attention to any exhibit’s faults.
4
Al Khalediah First International Arabian Horse Show
If a horse appears lame, the Judge may indicate to the exhibitor, through the Ring Master, that he/she considers the horse
to be going unevenly and thereby give the exhibitor a chance to withdraw from the class rather that be placed down the
line.
The Judge shall be brisk and adapt him/herself to the time available.
The judge shall consider the interest of all the exhibitors, and the method of judging shall be consistent.
Any badly behaved horse or handler can and will be dismissed from the class.
Handlers can only present one horse in this class.
Presentation of the horse
1. Concerning the protection of horses and drug abuse, the rules of ECAHO paragraphs 15, and 35 to 41 are fully
applicable.
2. Handlers must be at least 16 years of age. They must be neatly and appropriately dressed. In the view of the
prestigious nature of the competition, the Organiser reserves the right to refuse entry in to the ring of any person wearing
unsuitable or casual clothing.
3. Respect of Schedule - The timing of the events will be available to exhibitors from the Organiser’s office. The horses
will be marshalled by stewards and be in the warm-up ring at least 20 minutes before the start of the event. To avoid any
delay in the warm-up ring, each horse should have its own show halter.
4. Sale Rules - If a horse is sold between the qualifying classes and the Championships, the new owner will have to prove
its purchase with an attestation of the sale signed by the former and the new owner.
Veterinary Matters
1. Veterinary Inspection
The veterinary inspection and the checking of passports and identification documents may commence on Wednesday 16 th
January 2008 at 10.00am.
2. Vaccination against equine influenza
All horses must be up to date with their influenza vaccination. The confirmation of the vaccination history must be
included in the horse passport and validated by the Organiser’s Veterinarian.
EQUINE INFLUENZA VACCINATION, Veterinary Regulations, Annex VII
All horses and ponies for which an FEI Passport, or a National Passport approved by the FEI has been issued, must have
the vaccination section endorsed by a veterinarian, stating that it has received two injections for primary vaccination
against Equine Influenza, given between 21 and 92 days (i.e. 1 – 3 months) apart. For live vaccines, another schedule for
the primary vaccination may apply. In addition, a booster vaccination must be administered within each succeeding 6
months, following the second injection of the primary course. None of these injections must have been given within the
preceding 7 days including the day of the competition or of entry into the competition stables.
The above are the minimum requirements for Influenza vaccination. The primary course and subsequent booster
vaccinations should have been given according to the manufacturer’s instructions that will fall within the stipulation of the
FEI ruling. If a horse is not competing in FEI competitions for an extended period, at least the manufacturers’
recommendations for booster vaccinations should be followed.
3. Drug Testing
All horses entering international events may be submitted to a drug test.
The exhibitor or his representative will be present to sign the necessary documents.
Any use of prohibited substances will be followed up by the SDC of ECAHO and dealt with according to the rules.
