Regulations
Senior-Junior Prom 2012
The following are the policies and regulations for students and their male guests attending the prom sponsored
by Merion Mercy Academy on Friday, April 27, 2012:
1. The prom extends from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. All students (young women and men) are expected to
arrive at The Crystal Tea Room (Macy’s building) in Center City, Philadelphia by 8:00 p.m. and stay until
11:00 p.m. unless parents have requested special permission in writing, and such permission has been
approved. No one may leave the building at any time during the prom. In addition, no smoking is permitted
anytime during the event. The enclosed permission form must be signed by the student and her
parent/guardian and returned to the Activities Office upon purchasing tickets.
2. Merion Mercy Academy will not allow or tolerate alcohol (or any other illegal substance) at the dance,
whether on one’s person, in one’s bag, or in one’s parked vehicle. Anyone who possesses or has used
alcohol or drugs, or whose behavior is suspicious of chemical misuse, will be dealt with directly…
An administrator will call the offender’s parents immediately. The parents will be asked to come
to the prom to pick up their daughter/son.
An MMA student found in violation of this policy may incur suspension; the parents must meet
with school administrators, accordingly. Deliberate and serious action may be taken. Such
action includes the liability for expulsion and/or denial of participation in all graduation
exercises.
3. All students are responsible for themselves and for their invited guests. Anyone who is attending the prom
is subject to the rules and regulations stipulated by Merion Mercy Academy, regardless of age. Merion
Mercy Academy reserves the right to control and regulate activities which are our immediate responsibility.
4. In order to provide for the safety and well-being of each student and her date, we ask parents to support the
following statements:
I will not serve beer, wine, or liquor to teenage guests, nor will I allow them to bring alcohol or
drugs into my home.
I will be present and visible at my daughter’s parties and will ask other adults to help chaperone
larger parties.
If a guest shows any abnormal behavior, I will arrange safe escort home.
I welcome and expect calls from parents concerned about what will be served, who will be home,
and what time the party will end.
I will not hesitate to call another parent for similar information when my daughter is invited to a
party.
I will erase the fear, “If I call home, I’ll get killed,” explaining that not calling home is a surer
way to get into serious trouble. I will promise my daughter that if an uncomfortable situation
arises and her companions are drinking, then I will respond to a call without protest despite the
hour or distance, and I will discuss the issue at a more appropriate time.
