Our priority development is QCLNG
– one of Australia’s biggest capital
infrastructure projects and the world’s
first liquefied natural gas project
based on gas from coal seams.
The business will increase the number of its employees by almost 100 as
a result of the QGC contract, which began in 2011.
These people operate the rigs and provide services in accommodation,
catering, construction, training and administration.
Easternwell estimates that $60 million will be spent with suppliers
during the next three years and that Queensland companies will attract
a significant amount of the work.
Five of the top 10 suppliers to Easternwell – who provide food, fuel,
transportation, equipment and ancillary services – are based in the
greater Toowoomba region.

Queensland, has been identifying and prequalifying Australian
companies to ensure a reliable pool of local suppliers is available.
By 2014 QGC’s parent company, BG Group, will have invested US$15
billion in constructing the QCLNG Project.
QGC expects that about half of the project’s total capital outlay until
that date will be spent with Queensland and Australian firms and for
about 80 per cent of operating expenditure over the next 20 years to be
spent locally.
QGC has hundreds of contracts for services and equipment and more
than 1500 businesses have registered their interest in being involved in
QCLNG.
Many are small family businesses that are growing and prospering.
QCLNG involves significantly
expanding QGC’s operations in
the Surat Basin and transporting
the gas via a 540km underground
pipeline network to Curtis Island, off
Gladstone, where it will be cooled to a
liquid for transport by ship.
QGC also supplies about 20 per cent
of Queensland’s gas demand through
our existing domestic gas business.
