Focus on Krasny
In the end of 2012 after 11,030 meters of drilling, an
initial JORC compliant mineral resource estimation
for part of the Krasny gold deposit was released,
showing 44 million tons at an average grade of 0.89
g/t Au as Inferred resources. The current estimation
covers 1,300 meters of mineralization out of total
2,850 meters strike confirmed with the recent drilling.
With the results, the deposit has a high potential to be
developed into a mine.
The mineralization is also potentially outcropping
to the west, where Kopy Goldfields currently
are drilling in order to update the mineral resource
report. Results of the metallurgical study show 77% of
the gold extracted by gravitation only, and 93% after
flotation.
Core drilling show gold intersections of 38m
with an average grade of 3.3g/t, 40m@2.38g/t +
Apart from Krasny, Kopy Goldfields has 14 licences in
Lena Goldfields at the moment in different stages of
exploration. These include 117 kOz mineral resources
Indicated and Inferred under JORC Code and 5.0
MOz of C2-P3 of Russian historic resources.
The Kavkaz and Kopylovskoye cluster are ready for
feasibility studies and/or production joint ventures.
The other license areas are evaluated for potential
further exploration in 2013.
Kopy Goldfields continuously searches for new
high potential licence areas within Lena Goldfields to
include in its portfolio and acquired eight new licenses
during 2012 in a highly prospective area. The licenses
have geology and rock similar to Sukhoy Log and
carry strong possibility to host elephant gold deposits.
Gold mining in Russia
Russia has a strong mining tradition and
is known for its highly skilled mining
specialists. However, gold mining - in
contrast to exploration of other national
resources such as oil and gas - is not
regarded as a national strategic industry.
The largest five gold producing companies
operating in Russia are international.
The mining and tax legislation climate
in Russia is favourable - it only takes
6-12 months in average to get production
permits.
Production costs are low as a result of
a good supply of local expertise, combined
with comparatively cheap electricity
and fuel. Cash cost for companies
comparable to Kopy Goldfields operating
in Lena Goldfields amount to 350-450
USD/oz.
Most exploration data in Russia goes
back to the 1960-70s and new exploration
data collected with modern technique
is limited to brown field projects.
The known big gold deposits are not
exploited to their full potential and large
areas of Russia remain to be explored.
Lena Goldfields – gold rich and
underexplored
Located in the Irkutsk region in Russia,
Lena Goldfields is one of the most
gold rich and underexplored areas of
the world. The total area covers some
150,000 km2. Alluvial gold has been
produced in the area for more than 150
years, with a total of more than 30 million
oz of gold extracted from its rivers
over the years. Bedrock production was
established only ten years ago.
Kopy Goldfields operates in an area
close to the city of Bodaibo in Lena
Goldfields. There is a strong gold mining
tradition in Bodaibo, a regional centre
for alluvial gold production for more
than a century. Gold production is the
only industry in the area. Infrastructure
is well developed with an airport, state
maintained roads open all year round
and diverse net of electric power lines
with a hydropowerplant on a local river
and connection to the mainland electricity
net.
Lena Goldfields is characterised by
a major number of geochemical gold
anomalies and rich alluvial gold deposits,
indicating bedrock gold mineralisation.
Many world-class deposits are found in
the area, including Sukhoy Log with 60
million oz of gold.
Major world class mining projects in
the area include Vysochaishy (GV Gold)
and Verninskoye (Poluys).
