ean D. Maiden, age 79, of Marathon, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March
23, 2010, at the Sioux Care Center at Sioux Rapids, Iowa.
In Loving Memory
Dean Duane Maiden, the son of Otto and Eva (Groff) Maiden, was born in Webb,
Iowa, on April 10, 1930. Dean lived his youth and received his education in
Marathon, graduating from the Marathon High School.
Following graduation, Dean was employed at Sundholm Manufacturing in Albert
City.
He then worked for the grain elevators in Webb, Sioux Rapids, and
Marathon. Dean’s next employment was with Ranco in Sioux Rapids and he later
worked at Eaton’s Manufacturing in Spencer until his retirement.
Dean’s home was located next to the depot in Marathon and he enjoyed a
lifelong passion for trains and the railroad. Because of his keen interest in the
railroad, he became well acquainted with all of the train engineers and
conductors.
Dean was featured several times about his fascination and
involvement with trains by the KTIV television station from Sioux City. He was a
faithful member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon and throughout his
lifetime he provided pulpit supply for area churches as a lay minister. Dean’s
interest in history was exemplified in his memberships in the Marathon Historical
Society and the Buena Vista County Historical Society. In his younger years he
supported the youth of Marathon and Sioux Rapids by serving as a Scout Master.
Dean is fondly remembered by his sisters: Bonnie Storck of Moose Lake,
Minnesota; Ann (Dale) Johanson of Ringsted, Iowa; several nieces; nephews; and
his many friends.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Vaun, Verne,
and Calvin; brother-in-law, Robert Storck.
Blessing and honor be given to the memory of Dean Duane Maiden.
My Brother—My Friend
Into each life some rain will fall. I’ve had a lot of
rain in my life knowing all the pain and suffering
you have endured. But the clouds have parted and
the sun is shining on both of us.
You have been the engineer and the conductor for
many people. Especially the young. Not it is time
to say “all aboard, farewell and God’s speed” as
you ride your golden train on your final journey to
meet your Lord and Savior.
So until we meet again my dear brother and friend,
my love goes with you and I know you are at
peace.
Lovingly,
Your Sister Annie
W
e wish to express our sincere gratitude for the
