During the meeting, Michael Chlenov gave Dmitry Kozak the report on monitoring anti- Semitism in 2010, prepared by EAJC experts. 07.09.2011 Moscow The Moscow Independent Press Center hosted a presentation by the Expert Group on Anti-Semitism of the Jewish community of Russia, which was created several years ago with the support of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. 20.09.2011 Moscow As part of the systematic efforts of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress to explain the position of the Jewish community on the unilateral proclamation and recognition of the Palestinian State, EAJC Secretary General Michael Chlenov met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Michael Bogdanov. At the meeting, the EAJC Secretary General gave the Deputy Minister the EAJC statement on the upcoming UN vote, and explained the position of the Jewish community of the Euro-Asian region on the situation. Michael Chlenov displayed extreme concern with the negative consequences of the possible unilateral proclamation of Palestinian statehood for the peace process and stability in the Near East. In turn, Michael Bogdanov explained the position of the Russian side. According to him, Russia's position remains unchanged – as the legal successor to the Soviet Union, it must confirm the independence of the Palestinian state. At the same time, the diplomat said that Russia will be ready to support any UN decision made following correct procedure. Bogdanov stressed that the Russian Federation remains a member of the Near East quartet, and as a member of this quarter will direct all possible efforts to continue the peace process, which has currently, according to him, “ground to a halt.” He also said that the representatives of the quartet would hold a meeting before the UN vote to discuss the situation. 22.09.2011 Moscow The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress held a press conference on the UN vote about the Palestinian state in the Moscow Independent Press Center. Speaking at the press conference, EAJC Secretary General Michael Chlenov voiced the position of the Congress about the unilateral proclamation of the Palestinian state, and of the possible vote at the UN General Assembly. This position was clearly pronounced in the Congress statement, which stresses that “unilateral actions, which are unambiguously excluded by these legal documents, will make the entire preceding peace process meaningless, moving it backward to far beyond its starting point.” 02.10.2011 Kiev, Ukraine The Jewish Confederation of Ukraine with the support of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress held the memorial evening “Babi Yar 70 Years” at the National Palace of Arts. Among those invited to the memorial evening were leaders of Ukrainian Jewish organizations and communities, as well as leaders of international Jewish organizations, important Ukrainian and European politicians, representatives of the US Congress. 28.10.2011 Moscow The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Secretary General, Professor Michael Chlenov took part in the seminar for the tutors of the course "Basics of Religious Cultures and Secular Ethics," organized by the Federal Education Institute. Federation gathered in Moscow for this study course. They were preparing teachers to teach the six-module course dedicated to the four traditional religions of the Russian Federation (Orthodox Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Buddism), basic tenets of other world religions, and the basics of secular ethics. Professor Chlenov gave a lecture on the module "Basics of Judaic Culture." While discussing the topic of teaching basics of "Basics of Religious Cultures and Secular Ethics" with the future teachers, the EAJC Secretary General noted that the implementation of this course into the school program of several regions should be seen as the beginning of the meeting between Russian school children and the traditional religions of the Russian Federation and the basics of other world religious cultures. 24.11.2011 Jerusalem The famous businessman and philanthropist Vadim Shulman was unanimously confirmed as the Acting President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress at the EAJC General Council session that took place in Jerusalem.
