Bendigo Art Gallery is pleased to host the 12th
Contemporary Australian Silver & Metalwork Award
in partnership with BUDA Historic Home and
Garden, Castlemaine.
The Contemporary Australian Silver & Metalwork
Award is a unique national biennial exhibition with
multiple acquisitive and non-acquisitive prizes,
showcasing contemporary silver and metalwork
practice in Australia. The award exhibition was
established in 1988 by BUDA Historic Home and
Garden to commemorate the significant contribution
to Australian silversmithing by the noted colonial
silversmith, Ernest Leviny. The Leviny family lived at
BUDA for more than 118 years.

Terms & conditions
1. The Contemporary Australian Silver
& Metalwork Award is a nationally
acclaimed biennial award exhibition
founded by BUDA Historic Home and
Garden, Castlemaine. The award has
multiple prizes in both professional and
student award categories.
2. In 2013, the award is being conducted
by Bendigo Art Gallery (the Gallery).
The professional award categories are
open to all Australian artists (citizens
of Australia or residents for at least 12
months). The student award categories
are open to all current and recently
graduated students (2011 and 2012)
enrolled in or recently graduated from
an accredited jewellery or silversmithing
course.
3. The award exhibition will be held at
Post Office Gallery, a satellite space of
Bendigo Art Gallery, at 51 – 67 Pall
Mall, Bendigo from 29 June – 28 July
2013.
4. Works chosen for the exhibition will
be pre-selected from digital images.
Artists may enter a maximum of two
works. Works must be the original
work of the artist. Work must be
designed and produced in the last two
years. If selected, one of the two works
submitted for pre-selection must be
available for display.
5. The judges’ decision will be final and
no correspondence will be entered into.
6. The judges will select one winning
work in each award category. The judges
reserve the right not to select any work
if works are not, in their opinion of
sufficient merit. The Gallery has the
right to refuse to display any entry.
7. Entries must be physically received by
Bendigo Art Gallery by 4pm Friday 1
February 2013. Entries received after
4pm Friday 1 February 2013 will not
be accepted. Entries must consist of
no more than two digital images (one
image per work entered supplied on
disk), curriculum vitae (two pages
maximum), entry form and entry fee.
Emailed entries will not be accepted.
8. Entry fee is $30 per professional
artist and $15 per student. Entry
fee is non-refundable and covers
administration and handling. Any entry
not accompanied by payment of entry
fee will be ineligible. Payment may
be made by cheque or credit card to
Bendigo Art Gallery. A receipt will not
be mailed unless requested. Envelopes
must be addressed with: Contemporary
Australian Silver & Metalwork Award.
Artists’ CVs and images will not be
returned unless a stamped self-addressed
envelope is provided.
9. Employees of Bendigo Art Gallery, City
of Greater Bendigo and, the organisers,
and members of their immediate family
are ineligible to enter.
10. Digital images should be less than two
megabytes (when opened), saved as
jpegs and able to be opened on PC
format. Jpegs must be saved on CD with
the following details as the file name:
artist surname_artist firstname_title.
jpg (Example: leviny_ernest_bracelet.
jpg). Slides, photographs, photocopied
reproductions, emailed images or any
other representations of the work
will not be accepted.
11. All artists will be informed of preselection
outcome by 1 March 2013.
The Gallery will retain selected artists
visual material until the close of the
exhibition.
12. The Gallery will not be responsible for
any loss or damage suffered to any work
in its possession or under its control and
each entrant shall indemnify the Gallery
against loss or damage suffered to his or
her work. Works will not be insured by
the Gallery.

13. The Gallery will not be responsible
for the sale of artworks. Any enquiries
regarding sale of work from the general
public will be directed to the artist and
/or dealer.
14. Works can be delivered to Bendigo
Art Gallery from Monday 11 March
– Thursday 28 March 2013. Works
must be delivered to the Gallery for
professional photography by no later
than 4pm Thursday 28 March 2013.
Artworks will be stored at Bendigo
Art Gallery until the installation of the
exhibition. After the exhibition, artists
are responsible for the collection of
their work between Monday 12 August
– Friday 30 August 2013.
15. All works must be well packed and
clearly labelled with artist’s name,
address, title of work and installation
requirements included (if applicable).
Works must be packed in such a
way that the work can be unpacked
efficiently and repacked in the same
way for return at the end of the
exhibition. It is intended that the works
selected will be shown in exhibition
at Post Office Gallery. Should space
prevent the display of work, the Gallery
will advise the entrant.
16. All entries selected for the exhibition
must be available for continuous
display at Post Office Gallery for the
period of the exhibition. Artists and/
or representatives cannot remove an
artwork from display prior to 28 July
2013. All artwork must be collected no
later than 4pm Friday 30 August unless
return postage or alternate delivery at
the artists cost is specified.
17. Artists selected for exhibition will allow
their works to be reproduced in print
and electronic media in the advertising
and promotion of the exhibition and
in any catalogue connected with the
exhibition. The Gallery reserves the
right to reproduce the winning entry in
publications in relation to the Award.
18. Freight of artwork. Artists are
responsible for the delivery and
collection of their artwork from the
Gallery. Artwork will not be accepted
unless delivered and returned free
of all freight and other charges. If an
artist should fail or omit to remove
their work from the Gallery between
Monday 12 August – Friday 30 August
2013, the Gallery, after sending a
notice by post to the artist at the last
known address of its intention to sell or
otherwise dispose of such work, or in
the event of no address being known
to the Gallery, then one month after
advertising such notice of intention
in a newspaper, may sell such work.
After deducting the incidental costs of
the sale, the balance will be held for
the artist. Provided however, that in
the event of such work being in the
opinion of the Gallery unsaleable, then
the Gallery may in lieu of selling the
same, destroy or otherwise dispose in
such a manner as it may deem fit and
thereafter the gallery shall be under no
liability whatever to the artist in respect
of any work so destroyed or disposed
of. All care will be taken, however, the
gallery will not be responsible for any
loss or damage caused. Freight and
insurance is the responsibility of the
artist.
19. Following the award exhibition at Post
Office Gallery, selected works will be
chosen to go on display at Arts Centre
Melbourne. Exhibitors whose work is
selected for the Arts Centre display will
be informed during the exhibition at
Post Office Gallery between 29 June –
28 July 2013.
20. All personal information gathered by
the Gallery will be used solely for the
purpose of administering the Award.
