Carbon Explained 

Many bicycle manufacturers throw around terms such as “high modulus” 

without understanding what it actually means. If a bicycle frame was 

actually super high modulus in terms of its GPa (Giga Pascal’s) rating it 

would ride as stiff as a board and wouldn’t be comfortable or practical for 

anything. This is often just a phrase used as marketing jargon by carbon 

suppliers and bicycle manufacturers alike. 

The most important aspect of a carbon frame is how the laminate is laid 

and the percentage ratio of carbon to cohesive resins. The direction the 

fibres are laid in the different areas of the frame, in particular the bottom 

bracket shell, head tube and chain stays should ensure the carbon has 

strong torsion to reduce flex whilst remaining soft in bending so the 

frame has the relevant amount of forgiveness during endurance rides 

on the road and over roots and rocks in the woods. When purchasing 

a bicycle an understanding of the carbon and a belief in its quality is 

exceptionally important as the vast majority of any carbon failures in the 

bicycle industry are as a result of the cohesive resins failing not the 

carbon itself. 

Forme bikes work with one of the worlds leading carbon bicycle 

manufacturers using Torayca 700 carbon fibre. Our frames are designed 

to offer the optimal balance of carbon to resin (70% Carbon : 30% Resin) 

to create the most adequate bicycle available for British terrain with every 

bike in the range scoring exceptionally well on the international stiffness 

to weight index. Forme bikes are so confident in the quality of our frames 

we also offer a lifetime guarantee. (See page 62 for further details) 

Paint process 

British weather conditions and road surfaces provide a harsh challenge 

for any bike. One of Forme’s strongest selling points is our exceptional 

paint quality. To ensure your bike always looks fresh and new every 

frame is coated with a super durable lacquer. Our frames are electrostatically 

charged and then colour is applied in the form of a fine powder. 

This process ensures scratch resistance and impact strength offering 

additional toughness and improved cosmetics.

Although the frame is the crucial part to any performance bicycle its 

componentry can either ignite it or deflate it. Forme bikes are only 

equipped with either our own Forme or One23 Ergofit line or the strongest 

established brands we know we can trust.

best compromise between ergonomic comfort and high performance

Forme Coaching 

Forme Coaching Ltd launched at the end of August 2011...a professional 

cycling coaching company...run by professional riders...supported by a 

professional brand. Forme Coaching is not just any coaching company; it 

has passion for cycling at the heart of the business. 

Dan Fleeman and Stephen Gallagher collectively possess over 20 years 

experience riding for pro teams such as Team Raleigh, An Post/Sean Kelly 

Racing Team, Cervélo Test Team, Giant Asia and Sigma Sport-Specialized. 

Their thinking on coaching is unique which has been developed over many 

years of being coached and racing amongst the elite in the cycling world. 

Gallagher’s most notable wins include the FBD Rás Tour of Ireland, Tour 

of Taiwan and Tour of Indonesia and has represented his country at the 

Commonwealth Games and as part of the Road World Championship 

winning team. Fleeman for two years running has won the National Hill 

Climb Championships along with an impressive overall win in the Tour of 

the Pyrenées, National Road Race Championships and top 10 in Tour 

of Britain and Tour of Beauce. Together with their work ethics both on 

and off the bike they pose to be a lethal combination within the world of 

professional cycling coaching. 

The connection with Forme Bikes was obvious. Like Gallagher and Fleeman, 

Forme Bikes is customer focused. The next step after purchasing a bike 

is how to get the most out of it whether it is used for completing a charity 

sportif or to help improve overall health and fitness. This is where Forme 

Coaching comes in. The professional cycling coaching packages offered 

provides further added value to Forme Bikes customers and allows them 

opportunities to immediately gain benefits from their new bike from a 

trusted source. For all Forme bikes purchased Forme Coaching are 

offering the customers 20% discount on coaching packages taken for a 

minimum of a year. 

Forme Coaching is about people...the people who run it, the coaches,

Thorpe Series 

The Forme Thorpe range is designed to offer the 

perfect balance between high performance and 

comfort. Providing exceptional torsional rigidity 

without sacrificing vertical give to provide a 

winning formula for any serious cyclist. 

Technology 

Tapered head tube/steerer 

Our Thorpe frames feature an 11/8” to 11/2” tapered head tube and steerer. This allows for 

more precise steering when descending as well 

as improved power transfer when jumping out of 

corners and launching powerful attacks. 

BB30 

The BB30 oversized bottom bracket design 

used on the Thorpe ensures minimal flex at the 

connection point between the larger-sized chain 

stay, seat tube and down tube connection which 

allows a more direct conversion of power transfer. 

Narrow Seat Stays 

With the reinforcement of additional cohesive 

resins and chunky square chain stays we have 

created a frame with narrower box shaped seat 

stays which allows the Thorpe to save weight 

without sacrificing power transfer. The stays are 

combined with a wishbone design at the top of the 

seat stay to provide marginal aerodynamic and 

strength advantages but predominantly to offer a 

sleeker and improved appearance.

(FE) model with the Longcliffe 3 and 4 (FE)

together with our aluminium frame manufacturer to develop 

one of the lightest Race XC aluminium frames 

available made from unique Kinesium superlight 

tubing, weighing only 1.2kg for the frame and also 

20% stronger than standard AL7005 material. 

Although the Winscar AL has XC race specific geometry it 

can also be used as a multi purpose Race and Trails bike with

handling any Black route grade trails at our local Cannock 

Chase Trails Centre.
