Students place in various contests<br />

MHS students proved they have the talent to<br />

compete as they placed in various competitions during<br />

the months of February and March.<br />

Here are some of the contests and the winners:<br />

Jonathan Segura placed 3rd in the Skills USA<br />

Welding contest an will advance to the state competition.<br />

Oscar Medina is his teacher.<br />

Electrical Technology students:<br />

Eddie Cruz placed 1st in Industrial Motor Control<br />

Skills and 3rd in Residential Wiring Skills; and<br />

Alex Trevino placed 1st in Residential Wiring Skills.<br />

They will compete in the state contest. Leo Gonzalez is<br />

their teacher.<br />

The MHS NJROTC competed in the Islander<br />

Challenge and placed 3rd overall in the Co-ed Division.<br />

Cadets who participated: James Degeere, Melinda<br />

Garza, Alex Trevino, Eloy Oropez, Angel Hernandez<br />

and Andrew Villarreal. Juan Delgado is their<br />

Naval Science instructor.<br />

Students in the Culinary Arts program placed<br />

1st in the district competition.<br />

Maria Martinez placed 1st in Commercial Baking<br />

and Alejandra Fernandez placed 1st in Culinary<br />

Arts. Both will compete in the state contest. Gloria<br />

Caram is their teacher.<br />

Criminal Justice students competed in the District<br />

12 Skills USA contest and also placed.<br />

Manuel Plazola placed 1st: state qualifier<br />

Amanda Rodriguez placed: 2nd state qualifier<br />

First Aid/CPR<br />

Amanda Rodriguez placed 1st: state qualifier<br />

Anastasia Hernandez placed 2nd: state qualifier<br />

Darryenne Robertson placed third: state qualifier<br />

CJ Projects/Research and display board<br />

Amanda Rodriguez placed 1st and had a perfect<br />

score of 100: state qualifier<br />

Bianca Stimson placed 1st and had a perfect<br />

score of 100: state qualifier.<br />
