AIMES is the Earth System synthesis and integration project of the
International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP). It builds on the
foundation of the Global Analysis, Integration and Modeling (GAIM) task force.
The challenge for AIMES is to achieve a deeper and more quantitative
understanding of the role of human perturbations to the Earth's
biogeochemical cycles and their interactions with the coupled physical climate
system.
QUEST is a multidisciplinary programme of the Natural Environment
Research Council (NERC), which brings together UK scientists working in a
wide range of disciplines. It aims to improve qualitative and quantitative
understanding of large-scale processes and interactions in the Earth System,
especially the interactions among biological, physical and chemical processes
in the atmosphere, ocean and land and their implications for human activities.
