A HAVEN
FOR WILDLIFE
WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF ANIMAL LIFE,
PEMBROKESHIRE IS THE PERFECT PLACE
FOR A CHANCE ENCOUNTER WITH WILD
DOLPHINS, PORPOISES AND WHALES.
In recent years huge ‘super-pods’ of common dolphins
have been spotted off the coast, while resident populations
of bottlenose dolphins and porpoises can be
frequently seen from April to October.
Risso’s dolphins, plankton-feeding basking sharks,
humpback, fin, and minke whales, as well as the
occasional orca, are also drawn to these nutrient
rich waters.
A third of the world’s population of grey seals can be
found around the Pembrokeshire coast. Visit between
September and November, to see pups born on
isolated beaches.
In spring and summer huge populations of nesting
Puffins, Gannets, Guillemots, Razorbills and Manx
Shearwaters can be seen on our five islands of Skomer,
Skokholm, Grassholm, Ramsey and Caldey.
