Don Briscoe, President
Bergelectric Corp.
from the president
New President vows to
continue Growth and Innovation
In 1961, I was hired as a summer helper at
Bergelectric while waiting for the college semester
to begin. At summer’s end, Al Berg’s partner
handed me my check and said, “Come see us after
college, this company has great career opportunities
for bright young people.” Wow, was he right!
quality
Opportunities for enterprising youth still exist
today. Most who come to Berg stay with Berg—the
individuals who comprise our management team
across the country have been with the company for
20 years on average.
Financial Strength, Stability, Vast Resources
and Innovation
While our underlying philosophy remains the same, strategic diversification into new
market segments and dramatically increased resources have fueled geographic expansion.
When many companies downsized during the recession, Bergelectric soared to a record
resources
$186 million in sales.
Building financial strength has been and will continue to be one of the linchpins in the
enduring success and stability of our company. Strong financial resources and unlimited
bonding capacity allow us the flexibility to pursue any size project in any location.
Utilizing technology to develop unique systems that combine CADD coordination with
sophisticated prefabrication methods provides added value for our clients. New divisions
that specialize in fire and life safety, communications, security and service were a natural
progression in a changing environment.
Berg is working from coast to coast in
the United States. We’ve completed
projects in remote locations from
Mexico to Guam and have just
commenced construction on a
Reebok Sports Club in London,
England. There are no boundaries!
Our goal is to continue to raise
the bar and remain at the forefront
of our industry.
I am proud to have been a part of
the tremendous growth of our
company, honored to have been
selected as president and look forward
to working with our management team
toward our continued success.
Report
Berg emerges as
Bioscience Leader
Biotechnology. Biomedical. Biopharmaceutical. Today southern California’s science industry is
much more diversified than ever, developing anything from allergy vaccines to cancer treatments.
Rivaling traditional industries as a formidable economic force in the region, bioscience continues
to grow at warp speed. Statistics are staggering—according to the California Healthcare Institute,
there are over 1,300 companies employing 126,000 people, who earn a whopping $6.4 billion
in annual wages while generating $852 million in research and development and producing
$3.7 billion for export.
Pioneers on a New Frontier
Early in biotech’s infancy, Bergelectric recognized the industry’s tremendous untapped potential and began developing expertise to
address its unique needs. “Our extensive pool of resources throughout southern California provides us with the ability to build intricate
bioscience facilities on fast-track schedules,” explained Ron Wood, a Bergelectric special projects division manager who focuses on
biotech construction.
“We now have more than two decades of solid experience in constructing biotech, biopharmaceutical and biomedical projects, which
solidifies our long-standing relationships with clients who are constructing these types of facilities,” says Tom Anderson, Bergelectric
executive vice president. “As they have expanded, our resources have also grown to meet their needs.”
General contractor for the San Diego Science Center, David Begent & Co., attests to Berg’s outstanding record in the field. Vince
Gonzales, Begent’s project manager for the facility, which will house numerous start-up biotech companies under one roof, said “Berg
has the resources to staff a complex project that requires a myriad of services that go far beyond the typical electrical installation—from
control wiring to security and fire-alarm systems. They have the know-how to coordinate work efficiently and effectively with other
trades, which is important in building facilities as intricate as biotech.”
Pharmaceutical
Giant
Pfizer has come a long way from its humble
beginnings in the late 19th Century and mass
production of penicillin during WWII. But their
mission remains unchanged—improving upon the quality
of life for the kingdom of man, as well as the animal kingdom.
Today, Pfizer invests a staggering $2+ billion annually on
research and development in a wide range of medical
fields—from asthma to arthritis and obesity to osteoporosis.
Working hand-in-hand with longtime general contracting
Berg has worked on eight projects for Pfizer in San Diego. The partner, DPR Construction, Bergelectric has helped provide
latest two projects included research and office facilities with
space for Pfizer’s burgeoning operations on their La Jolla
full-spectrum chemistry laboratories totaling 428,000 s.f.
campus. “Don’t let the term ‘tenant improvement’ fool you,”
said Berg Project Manager John Lavallee. “These projects
included two new pharmaceutical research and office buildings complete with full-spectrum chemistry labs totaling 428,000 s.f.”
In just under nine months on each building, Bergelectric crews ran distribution feeders in the underground parking structures using
prefabricated unistrut conduit racks, concentric conduit bends and rough-in devices. They installed San Diego Gas & Electric service,
central plants, emergency generators, laboratory electrical utilities, and all security, fire, communication and EMS systems totaling
over $5 million.
Generating Cost Savings at
IDEC
San Diego-based IDEC is a cutting-edge pharmaceutical company specializing in
treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases. Berg is collaborating with DPR
Construction on IDEC’s latest addition—the New IDEC Clinical Operation (NICO)—
which is a 43,500-s.f. clinical supply manufacturing facility featuring Class 100, 10k and 100k
clean rooms.
For this project, Berg was instrumental in reducing the owner’s costs by consolidating two generators
with paralleling switchgear that had been specified in the original design. A switch was made to a
1500KW generator, with no paralleling switchgear, that was in compliance with California pollution
control. Identification of the necessary change ultimately saved IDEC over $84,000.
“To help facilitate the kind of intricate coordination between DPR and Berg that took place during
design, we have a dedicated detailer with us every step of the way to coordinate all of the mechanical,
plumbing and process pipe work,” said Berg’s Project Manager Greg Trejo. Berg construction crews
will also work in shifts to help both DPR and IDEC maintain the aggressive nine-month schedule.
Berg’s Los Angeles Operations Assist Amgen
in Maintaining
Worldwide Edge
Berg’s decade-long relationship with Amgen provides a
distinct advantage to construction teams on this ever-growing
bioscience campus.
Preserving a position as the world’s largest
independent biotechnology company takes a
commitment to facilities where cutting-edge
research can take place. Amgen, best known for developing
products that stimulate the growth of blood cells, has a
20-year history of providing treatments for a broad spectrum
of diseases from cancer to Alzheimer’s.
Headquartered in Thousand Oaks, California, this titan
of biotech has chosen the team of architect Johnson Fain,
general contractor Hathaway Dinwiddie, electrical
engineer Affiliated Engineers and electrical contractor
Bergelectric to deliver Amgen’s new 215,000-s.f. facility.
According to Berg Project Manager Conor McKeown,
in addition to electrical and lighting systems, the Berg
construction team provided control wiring for cold rooms,
as well as complete fire and life safety, voice/data and
security systems, critical to protecting sensitive materials.
For maximum peace of mind, the entire four-story laboratory
and quality-control facility is backed up by emergency
power featuring dedicated outlets/equipment supported by
a 750 kva UPS System.
“Knowing Amgen’s requirements through our 10-year
history of working together on six other projects at this site
enabled the Berg team to deliver this complex project in
just 24 months,” says McKeown.
Newcomer
AlleCure
Looks to Berg
for Major
Although relatively new to the marketplace,
AlleCure’s rapidly expanding facilities in
Valencia, California, needed to keep pace
with the increasing demands of this start-up
company. In addition to requiring state-of-the-art laboratories
for allergy vaccine research and development, AlleCure
was also in need of space that could accommodate
manufacturing and administrative offices.
Supporting general contractor Rudolph and Sletten, Berg
played a pivotal role in getting the facility up and running.
The existing tilt-up building needed to be fitted with electrical,
fire and life safety, security and voice/data systems that
could meet AlleCure’s need to operate in extremely sensitive
surroundings, which includes a clean-room environment
critical to the company’s success. During Phase II, an
intricate power distribution grid was installed to provide
backup for both vital laboratory research equipment and
the central plant.
“It was challenging work, as the design evolved during
construction, but we were able to schedule staff loads,
detailing and fabrication to get the facility operational in
record time,” said Berg Project Manager Brock Knowles.
Two tenant improvement projects and 54,100 s.f. later,
the new kid on the block has the facility that will meet its
growing needs.
AlleCure’s new facilities house state-of-the-art
Reebok’s new sports club is part of
the largest construction project currently
underway in Europe—London’s Canary
Wharf development.
In the late nineteenth century, a United
Kingdom-based company pioneered the
development of some of the first known
running shoes. More than fifty years
later, two of the founder’s grandsons
started a companion company that came
to be known as Reebok, named for an
African gazelle. Growth exploded for Reebok after they made
a bold move in the early 80s by introducing a shoe that would
become the best-selling athletic shoe of all time—for a hot
new fitness exercise called aerobic dance. Reebok expanded
from fitness and exercise into the realm of sports and now
lends its name to innovative and luxurious fitness, spa and
sports clubs.
Berg sprints to LONDON to
build REEBOK SPORTS CLUB
Canary Wharf Currently
Europe’s Largest
Construction Project
The 93,000-s.f. Reebok facility is part of
London’s Canary Wharf development,
the largest construction project currently
underway in Europe. The sports club will
occupy three floors—housing a gymnasium,
swimming pool, restaurant/bar, beauty
salon/spa, pro shop, workout studios and
climbing wall.
The project manager Urban Building, Inc., and the general
contractor Skanska Construction UK Ltd., are making the
$30-million club a reality for owner Sportsplex (Canary
Wharf) Limited. Bergelectric is working on a design-assist
basis with the Reebok team that includes Los Angeles-based
Langdon Wilson Architects and electrical engineer GLP
Kaljarla Associates. Berg is providing the complete electrical
system with lighting systems, power distribution, dimming
and lighting controls and central clock system.
Overcoming Challenges Overseas
A 20+ year relationship with Paul Case of Urban Building,
Inc.; expertise in high-end tenant buildouts; health-club
experience and ability to meet aggressive schedules were all
reasons to select Berg for the overseas project. According to
Berg Project Manager Steve Parks, those qualities are fully
exercised when working in a foreign country. “There are
different codes to follow as well as different materials,
methods and inspections—and manpower logistics can be
challenging,” Dean Shipcott, Berg superintendent added.
Foreman John Waite and onsite Project Engineer Darren
Murray are on the fast track—the project started in January
of this year and is expected to wrap up in September 2002.
Berg’s human resources department, with Frank Boecker in
the lead, played a big role in the project, setting up manpower
needs and accommodations in London.

Crystal Cove
Promenade—
A Gem in So Cal
Retail Market
Situated on the coast of Orange County is one of California’s most affluent
communities—Newport Beach. It’s one of a string of upscale communities
settled on the prime beachfront property just west of Irvine. Aside from the
glistening blue ocean, the area boasts numerous attractions, including the
36-hole Pelican Hill Golf Club, Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas and more
than 1,300 hotel rooms for the scores of residents and visitors to enjoy.
All-in-all, it’s a retailer’s dream come true. That dream is realized in the
Crystal Cove Promenade.
Spread out over an 18-acre site, the 124,241-s.f. outdoor mall is a new,
Mediterranean-styled center overlooking the Pacific Ocean from Pacific
Coast Highway. Crystal Cove Promenade has attracted highly-recognizable
retailers such as Banana Republic, The Gap, Uh-Oh and Santos & Graham
and offers a place to sell their wares in a setting like no other.
Developed, designed and constructed by a team of dynamic California
New Branch Manager Takes Root
Moving into high gear, Mark Bauer is putting his
26 years of construction experience to work as he
assumes the role of branch manager in Berg’s
Irvine office. Bauer has served in high-level
management positions throughout much of his
career. His strong estimating background will
enhance Berg’s preconstruction and conceptual
budgeting services. Developing viable, long-term
partnerships with general contractors to perform
design-assist and design-build work is on his
list of top priorities in this thriving southern
California construction market. “We are perfectly
positioned to accelerate growth with the additional
support offered by the San Diego and Los Angeles
offices on strategic projects,” says Bauer.
His expertise on complex bioscience and designassist
laboratory projects with clients like
Novartis Pharmaceutical, Ely Lilly and IDEC
Pharmaceuticals, along with experience with DOD
work and on large-scale projects like the San Diego
Convention Center, fit the Berg profile to a T.
Accustomed to the fast track, Bauer enjoys
following the NASCAR circuit and deep-sea
In response to escalating customer demand, the rapidly-growing
Temecula area—located north of San Diego County—will soon be
home to a glistening new 165,000-s.f. Macy’s store. The two-story,
structural-steel, detached shopping facility is now under construction
adjacent to the existing Promenade Mall.
The Beck Group, a large Texas-based general contractor with offices
across the country, including Pasadena, California, is in charge of
construction. Bergelectric has been awarded both the shell and tenant
improvement electrical contracts and will be providing the general
power distribution, emergency-generator system, fire and life safety
alarm system and lighting.
BERG’S PREFABRICATION SAVES TIME
The extremely fast-track nature of this Macy’s project requires the
installation of over 5,000 lighting fixtures within a 3-month period.
Responding to the demanding schedule, Berg’s forward-thinking
prefabrication department was engaged to produce pre-wired fixture
‘whips’. These ‘whips’ are prepared for specific lengths and circuitry,
complete with fixture attachment connectors and wire terminators.
According to Project Manager Pat Briscoe, “Since we are able to
prefabricate the lighting circuitry ahead of schedule, we can attack the
installation immediately once an area is turned over to us. With electrical
completion scheduled for mid-summer to allow Macy’s to work on
store fixturing and merchandising, we are always looking at ways to
accelerate our installation.”

It appears that Berg has made an impression not only in the region, but in the neighborhood! They are
currently at work on tenant improvements for Gem Kingdom, the other tenant in the new facility.
“The region is thriving,” says Branch Manager Bill Sorber. “Our team has worked in tandem with some of the area’s
most prominent contractors on high-profile projects in industries ranging from hospitality to education,” he added.
“With this office, we have established ourselves as a major force in this region’s electrical contracting industry.”
According to Sorber, Orlando’s new office solidifies Berg’s commitment to the area proving that they have the
wherewithal and skills to make them a permanent fixture in the southeast. “We’re here to stay,” he said. “We’re
confident that our continuous work in the region will keep us firmly rooted here.”
Museum Place South Enriches
Portland’s Cultural District
Culture and education prevail in Portland’s West End where construction recently began on Museum Place South.
The mixed-use facility, covering a full city block, will house a new 47,000-s.f., full-service Safeway grocery store
on the ground floor and six levels of residential space with 128 apartments and 12 two-story townhomes. Features
include a large landscaped courtyard for residents to enjoy and two levels of underground parking. The project is
part of a larger redevelopment effort that spans three city blocks along the route of Portland’s newly resurrected
streetcar system.
The area is home to Portland
State University and the
Portland Art Museum, from
which it takes its name. Scheduled
for completion in 2005, Museum
Place is expected to help revitalize
the West End by introducing over
500 units of new housing, a renovated
YWCA and a full spectrum of
recreational and neighborhood/community
services to serve residents of
all ages and income levels.
All of the Museum Place construction
currently underway is led by Howard
S. Wright Construction, a general
contracting mainstay in the northwest
for well over one hundred years.
Sockeye Development Co. is
developing the project.
Museum Place South spans a full city block and features a Safeway
grocery along with six levels of residential space.
Berg’s Broad-based
Services Are a Boost
Bergelectric is providing design-assist services working closely with the Museum Place
South team that includes GBD Architects and CBG Consulting Engineers. Berg’s
full-service capabilities are a big plus for the project—northwest crews will provide power,
lighting and fire-alarm systems, as well as phone/data/television cabling. “The building
foundation is one main structure which becomes two structures when it reaches the street
level,” according to Vern Carlson, Bergelectric foreman. “There are complex cooling
requirements on this job—refrigeration has to be routed to the mezzanine level of the
Safeway store and above. Coordinating the grocery store infrastructure requirements with
the six stories of residential units above it further complicates the project,” says Carlson.
th Corrections Facility
5Each year, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, about one million adults are
convicted of felonies across the country. Each of those convictions comes with an average
sentence of about seven years. More criminals are incarcerated than are released. The
result? More jail space is needed.
Oregon’s Multnomah County is no exception. In response to the shortage, voters approved
construction of a new 225-bed, medium-security jail and a 300-bed drug and alcohol
treatment facility.
Construction of the County’s new 155,000-s.f. Wapato Corrections Facility began
in March when Hoffman Construction started sitework including an access road, key
utility connections and an environmental buffer around the peninsula that shields the
facility from Bybee Lake.
Wapato is the fifth in a string of correctional facilities on which Berg has worked with
Hoffman Construction, a Portland-based general contractor with operations in six states.
Architectural design is by KMD and electrical design is by Glumac International
Consulting Engineers.
According to Project Manager Matt Ordway, Berg is providing power, lighting, fire-alarm
and systems conduit. Berg’s detailing department, led by Joe Rogers, along with Foreman
Mike Johnson and Superintendent Brad Drinkward, will be instrumental in getting the
facility completed and ready for occupancy by the end of summer 2003.
Berg is contributing to the revitalization of the
housing. The end result will be Brewery Blocks—providing electrical installation
a vibrant urban neighborhood— for the new Whole Foods Market.
complete with carefully preserved
historic structures and bustling commercial activity.
The first to move into the newly renovated building is Whole Foods Market, the
world’s largest retailer of natural and organic foods.
Working with J.R. Abbott Construction of Seattle and H.A. Bowen of San Leandro,
California, Bergelectric completed the 50,395-s.f. Whole Foods project. Berg’s scope
of work included electrical installation of new power distribution, emergency power,
lighting controls, energy management systems and refrigeration, with a focus on
creating lighting that enhances the building’s vintage feel.
According to Project Manager Brett Chase, Berg is also working in tandem with
leading Oregon developer, Gerding/Edlen Development Company. “Known for its
broad-based expertise in complex mixed-use projects, the firm pays strict attention
to environmental concerns,” Chase said. “Our mission is to assure that the principals
of green engineering, as set out by both the developer and the City, prevail on
this project.”

3business
5business
Biotechnology, biomedical and biopharmaceutical projects
are a mainstay for both Rudolph and Sletten and Bergelectric.
2business
Both companies are willing to estimate and perform work for
clients on any size project—from a $10,000 office upgrade
to a $100-million hospital.
A commitment to continually expanding technology and
developing new expertise characterizes both R and S and Berg.
4business
Vast resources—from financial to human resources, from
historical databases to cutting-edge technology—both companies
bring rock-solid assets to the table on any construction project.
Mutual respect—both companies recognize and appreciate the
importance of each other’s contributions to a successful project.
Viewpoints
“Everybody I’ve worked with at Berg has the right attitude—from
estimators to field foremen—they do everything they can to
fulfill clients’ needs. They put technology to work to produce great
drawings and take the lead on the MEP coordination process.
And Berg has resources—they can literally bombard a job with
electricians when we need them to meet a deadline.”
—Frank Jones, Project Executive, Rudolph and Sletten
“I’ve had a friendly working relationship with Berg for 20 years
now and they’ve been responsive since day one.Whenever I want a
quick answer to a question I know that I can count on Ken
Bertalan or Alan Mashburn to give me a good answer.”
—Leigh Proudfoot, Assistant Chief Estimator,
Rudolph and Sletten
“I work directly with Bruce Zalenka at Rudolph and Sletten. We do
some of the smaller construction projects—the fast-track, cocktailnapkin
stuff. We usually don’t get a bunch of fancy drawings, but
we share a common philosophy—just make it happen.”
—Rick LePine, Service Division Manager, Bergelectric
“Rudolph and Sletten has highly-qualified electrical and mechanical
estimators on staff—Jun Tan in the Irvine office knows our business
as well as we do and that’s a real asset. They take the guesswork
out of the bidding process by sending out complete bid packages
with clear direction.”
—Doug Crumby, V.P. Preconstruction, Bergelectric
“Client focus. It’s an essential part of our core philosophy and
it’s one of the key characteristics we seek in a subcontractor—Berg
has it. Also, most of our projects have a very defined schedule
and we know we can rely on Berg to staff the project properly and
deliver on schedule—without sacrificing quality.”
—Lofton Moore, Project Executive, Rudolph and Sletten
“Rudolph and Sletten recognizes the value that good subcontractor
relationships bring to a project—they support us as much as
we support them.”
Waterfront dwellers will be anxious to take the plunge into a new abode
when construction wraps up next spring on the Viera Condominiums.
Offering sweeping lake vistas, the 164,755-s.f. condos are the latest in a
string of projects at the spectacular Lake Las Vegas Resort, just a
30-minute spin from the action of the Las Vegas strip. The residences are
situated within an authentic Mediterranean-style waterfront village known
as The Village at MonteLago, a vibrant new centerpiece to the resort.
The nine-story Viera Condominiums consist of 177 units spread over six
terraced floors. The units range in size from studios to three-bedroom,
two-story villas. Project features run the full gamut—from service areas
and offices to amenities including retail shops, meeting and exercise rooms.
Residents will enter through the fourth-floor lobby and enjoy convenient
parking in the underground garage.
Ritz-Carlton Provides Springboard to Viera
The Village at MonteLago is the 50-acre residential and retail creation of
Vancouver-based Intrawest Corp. Just around the bend from the village,
Berg is performing work on the elegant, 350-room Ritz-Carlton Hotel—
so they were a natural choice when Viera builder, UPA Resort Construction,
chose an electrical contractor for the new residences.
Foresight and integrated planning are essential to delivering on multiple
undertakings such as those underway at Lake Las Vegas. Detailers in
Berg’s San Diego office are lending their support to facilitate underground
construction. Prefabrication shops are buzzing in both Las Vegas and
San Diego to produce rough-in components required for the precast walls
and decks in each of the condominiums.
“The spring 2002 start of Viera was complicated by a high water table
and caliche—which means hard soil and bedrock,” explains Berg Project
Manager Teri Hartsell. “We’re proposing to keep work on track by
installing our feeders and main runs in the slab, deck and precast walls.”
Berg’s scope of work for the project includes overseeing all electrical
installations and furnishing complete fire-alarm, telephone and television
systems, as well as a fire-alarm tie-in to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
Weiskopf
Clubhouse
underway at
Lake Las Vegas
Resort
‘The Lakes’ is one of three top-notch golf
courses at Lake Las Vegas. The course, which
was designed by Tom Weiskopf, a golf legend
whose courses typically receive rave reviews, is
so named for its abundance of beautiful water
features. The par-72 course is located at the
entrance to the exclusive community of Lake
Las Vegas and will allow the general public to
experience the challenge of the game like never
before—meandering through desert terrain with
a backdrop of waterfalls and lakes.
Relationships That Last
The 21,687-s.f. clubhouse and 6,830-s.f. cart
barn were designed by well-known golf facility
designer William Zmistowski Associates. The
owner is TCH Development, the developer of
the Ritz-Carlton Hotel at Lake Las Vegas.
Cost-effectiveness never takes a back seat, even
on luxurious facilities like those at Lake Las Vegas.
“We worked together with the design team and
owner to value-engineer this project and were
able to produce substantial savings for TCH
Development,” notes David Matula, Las Vegas
branch manager. The golf course buildings,
which are to be completed in September 2002,
are being constructed by Martin-Harris
Construction, another company with which Berg
has had a relationship for more than seven years.
Berg’s scope of work includes electrical wiring and
a fire-alarm system for both structures.
QUOTABLE
“Berg really performed for us on the Siena project.
Teri Hartsell, Berg’s project manager, knows
how to make things happen and Foreman Bob
Atkins did an exceptional job. He was a true
pleasure to work with every day.”
—Bob Amato, Project Manager—PD&C
Siena Office Park—
More than Medical
Occupancy rates for some Las Vegas Valley hospitals may be higher than at strip hotels, according to a report in
the Las Vegas Review-Journal. With an 83 percent increase in population from 1990—2000, it’s not surprising.
Today, while many U.S. cities are witnessing medical mergers and closures, Las Vegas continues to build new
facilities and expand existing ones.
Concurrent Construction at Siena Complex
Siena Office Park consists of three separate facilities—two, 2-story medical office buildings (MOB) for multiple
tenants; a single-story, patient-care facility occupied solely by Sierra Health; and the Siena Promenade, which will
feature new retail shops and restaurants. Constructed concurrently, all of the buildings were completed this spring.
Berg’s
Las
responsibilities for the MOBs included the
vegas
central plant that tied into both buildings, well all electrical
equipment and interior, exterior and site lighting. According to Berg Project Manager Teri Hartsell, “We completed
electrical installations for both the shell and tenant improvements in the Sierra Health building which required
hospital-grade electrical components and precise protocols.
Siena Promenade may become a landmark in Henderson, Nevada, with its exquisite main entry that features an
aged-copper dome, which will be lit at night with exterior wall-mounted sconces. Berg furnished and installed
the multi-metering, main switchgear, site lighting and exterior wall fixtures to prepare for prospective retail and
restaurant tenants.
Siena Office Park will feature medical offices, patient care
facilities—and something more—shopping at Siena Promenade!
Savvy Manpower Management
Foreman Bob Atkins and Superintendent Marcos Garcia coordinated daily and conducted inspections together at
least twice a week to strategically and efficiently schedule electrical crews, maximizing labor resources on all three
projects, which were scheduled to finish up at approximately the same time.
Bingo!
Arizona Charlie’s
New Parlor Game
Located off the Las Vegas strip, Arizona
Charlie’s East is a hotel/casino offering the
full menu of slot machines and table games,
a 303-room hotel, a variety of restaurants, a
207-space RV park and something new—one of
the largest 24-hour bingo parlors in Las Vegas.
And Bingo is the Name-o
Bingo is one of the lowest grossing casino
games—compare its turn-of-the-century
revenues of $2.6 million with $2.5 billion on
quarter slot machines. Casinos offer bingo
in hopes of attracting gamblers to the
enticing array of other games in operation.
To keep up with Las Vegas’ population
growth and a steadily growing number of
players, Arizona Charlie’s East is
undergoing an extensive remodel for the
addition of its own bingo parlor. The project
is currently under construction by Harris
Associates. Bergelectric is furnishing and
installing the neon, underfloor duct, fire-alarm
system, conduit for security system, sound
system, CCTV system, MATV system,
switchgear and lighting fixtures for the project.
“The work is being performed in an existing
facility with guests that are on vacation, so
keeping the noise level down has been
challenging,” says Teri Hartsell, Berg project
manager. “It’s not early to bed and early to
rise around Las Vegas—much of the work
can’t start before 8 a.m.”
Bergelectric installed underfloor duct in
the second-floor slab to provide power
for additional slot machines.
