As an artist with an interest in ma<strong>the</strong>matics <strong>and</strong> science, my paintings’ <strong>the</strong>mes range from<br />
quantum physics to fractal patterns. The watercolor paintings are not illustrations of<br />
ma<strong>the</strong>matical concepts or <strong>the</strong>ories of <strong>the</strong> universe, but are inspired by <strong>the</strong> timelessness<br />
<strong>and</strong> elegance revealed in <strong>the</strong> quest <strong>for</strong> underst<strong>and</strong>ing. That <strong>the</strong> universe can have structure<br />
<strong>and</strong> order <strong>and</strong> at <strong>the</strong> same time be evolving through chaos <strong>and</strong> entropy fuels my<br />
imagination.<br />
Labyrinth<br />
Labyrinth, Sawtooth Spirals #1 <strong>and</strong> #2, <strong>and</strong> Fiddleheads, are part of a series emerging<br />
from spirals in nature, including <strong>the</strong> fractal patterns of fiddlehead ferns, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
geometry evident in seashells <strong>and</strong> sunflowers. None of my ideas are computer generated.<br />
Ra<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>the</strong> spirals are drawn freeh<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> a ruler is used to create <strong>the</strong> segments radiating<br />
from <strong>the</strong> center. I always complete a detailed drawing be<strong>for</strong>e adding color, but <strong>the</strong> color<br />
choice is spontaneous <strong>and</strong> develops with <strong>the</strong> painting.
