Paraplegia Group<br />
OUR paraplegia multiple treatment group, formed in<br />
March 1969, was specially charged with treating<br />
patients with traumatic paraplegia (paralysis of the lower<br />
part of the body caused by injury).<br />
Guided by Chairman Mao's philosophic thinking and<br />
his idea of combining Chinese traditional and Western<br />
medicine, we have had initial success in curing this "incurable"<br />
condition.<br />
Of the 151 paraplegia patients we have treated in the<br />
past three years, 124 can now walk with crutches, while<br />
15 get about without any aid. Eight have gone back to<br />
work.<br />
Curing the "Incurable"<br />
Traumatic paralysis of the lower part of the body is<br />
caused by a fall or other accident resulting in fracture<br />
of the patient's spine and damage to the nerves of the<br />
spinal cord. The patients became bed-ridden, and in time<br />
suffered from muscle atrophy, incontinence and bedsores.<br />
