Deborah Stacey’s A Search for Beauty Soothes the
Soul is coming up at the Cre8ery from April 9-15.
Deborah Stacey is an artist, architect, and cancer
survivor. A Search for Beauty Soothes the Soul is a
series of paintings she began while undergoing
treatment for breast cancer. Rather than dwell on the
negative, these paintings focus on the beauty of
flowers as an escape from the fear, anxiety, duress
and tedium of her cancer journey, starting with the
many flowers that were given to her while convalescing
from surgery. As such, the paintings also
represent a very personal connection to the caring
family and friends that gave her their love and
support throughout. In an effort to give back and
help others stricken with cancer, all proceeds from
the sale of these paintings will go toward the very
important family support programs offered by
CancerCare Manitoba.
these works offer a glimpse into the huge volume of
have been selected through the course of focused
curatorial initiative, and Video Pool is very excited
by how they provoke reflection both upon the
development and future of media art, as well as the
history of Video Pool.
