NSW Recreational <strong>Saltwater</strong> Fishing Guide Fish bag limits, size limits and closed seasons<br />
Legal length: 30cm.<br />
Bag limit: 10 in total*. 20 in possession.<br />
Habitat: Beaches, rocky headlands, estuaries, inshore reefs.<br />
Good baits: Small baitfish such as pilchards and whitebait<br />
or oily fish such as tuna. Responds aggressively to metal<br />
lures and diving minnows.<br />
Please note: Undersize fish cannot be used as bait, they must be returned<br />
to the water immediately, even if they are injured or dead.<br />
Teraglin<br />
Legal length: 38cm.<br />
Bag limit: 5.<br />
Habitat: Inshore/offshore reefs.<br />
Good baits: Squid, oily fish such as tuna,<br />
live slimy mackerel or yellowtail.<br />
Trevallies<br />
Legal length: 30cm for Silver Trevally only.<br />
Bag limit: 10 in total*. 20 in possession.<br />
Habitat: The most common trevally in NSW waters is the<br />
Silver Trevally, which favours inshore reefs, rocky areas and bays.<br />
Good baits: Marine worms, prawns, squid and fish strips.<br />
Tuna: Albacore, Big-Eye, Longtail, Southern Bluefin, Yellowfin<br />
Legal length: None (see below). Bag limit: 7 in total* # .<br />
Only 2 of 90cm or over and 5 under 90cm<br />
Habitat: Open ocean, sometimes found close inshore<br />
following schools of baitfish.<br />
Good baits: Pilchards, slimy mackerel, yellowtail. Tuna also<br />
respond well to trolled skirted and diving lures.<br />
