The subject matter of the interview was not fixed in adv<strong>an</strong>ce, but the interviewers (five<br />
members of the research team, including the author) were given <strong>an</strong> aide memoir, to cover<br />
topics that were emerging as theoretically import<strong>an</strong>t following some preliminary <strong>an</strong>alyses<br />
of the qu<strong>an</strong>titative data set. Particip<strong>an</strong>ts <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> interviewers discussed a number of topics but<br />
the two most relev<strong>an</strong>t to this study were: i) the me<strong>an</strong>ing attached to <strong>work</strong> <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong> family <strong><strong>an</strong>d</strong><br />
