<strong>Event</strong> <strong>Internship</strong> (Mini-Marathon), Spring 2014<br />
40 hours per week requested<br />
January 13 – June 6, 2014<br />
Supervisor: Eric Rowles, <strong>Event</strong> Director<br />
The ideal candidate for this position will be looking for a career in the field of event planning and is taking<br />
classes or already has had some special event planning experience. The candidate will be working to produce the<br />
nation’s largest half-marathon and all the events supporting the half-marathon, in addition to helping with<br />
coordination of the Training Series and the <strong>500</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> Memorial Service. This person needs to be multi-task<br />
oriented with superior organizational skills, customer relations experience, a great attitude and strong written<br />
and verbal communications skills. It is our preference that the Mini-Marathon Intern does not take classes<br />
concurrently with this internship.<br />
The candidate must also be flexible and willing to put in additional hours as needed prior to and especially<br />
during the months of April and May for all of the <strong>500</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> events. This would include the ability to work up to<br />
14 hours per day and 80 hours per week during peak event times.<br />
Special note:<br />
Manual labor will be involved in this job, so please be sure you are able and willing to do manual labor before<br />
responding to this opportunity. Examples include moving water containers, large signs, tables, chairs and other<br />
event type items.<br />
Specific responsibilities:<br />
Assist in the coordination of the following Mini-Marathon events: Mini-Marathon, 5K and Training Series.<br />
Learning Outcomes: <strong>Event</strong> planning, communications, teamwork, problem-solving and logistics<br />
Coordinate the Elite Participant segment of the Mini-Marathon. As well as the distribution of Mini-Marathon<br />
awards and prize money.<br />
Learning Outcomes: Communication, leadership and organization<br />
Assist in the coordination of the <strong>500</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> Memorial Service including direct communication with families of<br />
fallen soldiers.<br />
Learning Outcomes: <strong>Event</strong> planning, customer and community service<br />
Responsible for answering all questions posed by participants and committee members regarding the events<br />
listed.<br />
Learning Outcomes: Verbal communication and customer relations<br />
Coordinate written and verbal event details to Executive Board and Volunteer Committees.<br />
Learning Outcomes: Written and verbal communication and leadership<br />
Assist with committee meetings and dissemination of meeting minutes for the Mini-Marathon and Memorial<br />
Service.<br />
Learning Outcomes: Listening and small group discussion<br />
Stipend:<br />
The intern will earn a weekly stipend of $200 that will be paid at the end of each month.

The <strong>500</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> will work with any educational institution to ensure that the intern receives proper credit for<br />
their experience. This includes any forms, documentation or correspondence with the internship coordinator<br />
that is required or necessary.
