Sled Yarders (cable winches) are
used as traction or braking machines
for driving cableways to transport
the carriage of the skyline crane or
cableway.
Carriages are moved on the skyline
cable by the sled yarder with the help
of the mainline cable. In principle,
the load that is being transported
is suspended on the carriage and
transported along the skyline cable.
Motorised Skyline Cranes are
equipped with a engine to move the
hoisting cable, which is wound around
a drum on the carriage. The standard
model is pulled using a sled yarder.
Motorised skyline cranes are used on
construction sites.
Single-Line Cableways are selfdriven
units for smaller payloads in the
range of 200 to 500 kg.
Cableway Accessories for the
installation, maintenance and
operation of cableways, such as cable
tensioning equipment, cableway
intermediate supports, cable support
saddles for intermediate supports,
cable clamps, safety belts for climbing
towers, pulley-blocks etc.
Avalanche Control Systems are used
for the artificial release of avalanches
in order to safeguard ski slopes, roads,
settlements or other installations.
Special Installations
In this section, almost everything is
produced that has something to do
with a ropeway, even in the remotest
way. These include, for example a
bungee-jumping ramp with a retrieval
winch, which was installed on the wall
of a dam, or a transportation cableway
for the transportation of gravel in a
gravel pit that shortens a long detour
for trucks in an elegant way by crossing
a river.

Wyssen Sled Yarders
As a result of decades of experience
in the construction of sled yarders,
and thanks to the continuous further
development, high-performance machines
have been created that are characterised
above all by their mobility, excellent
quality, high performance, safety and
long service life.
Thanks to their lightweight construction
from high quality materials, Wyssen sled
yarders find a wide range of applications
in forestry and in the construction
industry. They are predominantly used
as the drive units of skyline crane
installations, as the traction unit for
heavy skyline cables, as drives for
sloping elevators and as installation or
retrieval winches. When fitted with a
circular drive disc, it can also be used as
a circular drive for material cableways.

The sled runners, which are available in
narrow or wide style according to your
wishes and the type of sled yarder, offer
a good cross-country capability; these
are therefore suitable as mounting
winches.
The large drum diameter ensures a very
long service life for the mainline cables.
In the models with a hydrostatic drive,
the speed, traction and
the direction of the drum
rotation is fully adjustable
to the given circumstances
with a single control lever.
With the skyline crane,
loads can be hauled,
hoisted, carried uphill and
lowered using the winch.
Downhill runs are usually
controlled by the air
brake.

The latest development is the extremely
compact, remote controlled Wyssen
carriage HY-2.
The patented system is fabricated from
high strength steel, 4 times stronger
than common steel.
Thanks to the remote control, the
operator in the forest can stop and
secure the carriage at the exact right
location.
The mainline clamp allows the carriage
to be released while the load is raised
or lowered, permitting movement to a
new location and re-clamping to the
cable.
This facilitates the sideways pulling of
the load and protects the remaining
timber growth from damage.
As soon as the hook is drawn tight
into the carriage, the skyline grip
automatically releases, allowing travel
of the unit. When under tension, the
hook is secured against rotation,
preventing damage to the mainline.

HY-4 and HY-7 Carriages
The ideal unit for long-distance cableways.
The HY-4 and HY-7 carriages are
characterised by 4 guide pulleys and
a pendulum to support the load hook
and to relieve the mainline cable while
travelling. As a result, the mainline
cable will not be damaged, even by the
heaviest impacts due to long timber
loads.
Various options are possible:
- Remote radio control of the
clamping to the skyline cable
- Mainline cable clamp in the
pendulum
- 3-cable drum slack-pulling device
- Motorised slack-pulling device with
the power unit as trailer
For the transportation of long and
heavy goods, a trailer with a transport

The new Wyssen motorised skyline
crane models are equipped with a
hoisting winch with increased cable
capacity and lifting force.
The remote radio control can be
expanded from two to any number of
transmitters.
The hydrostatic drive is powered by a
diesel engine.
The cable drum is locked at standstill
using a spring loaded hydraulic brake.

Wyssen Skyline Crane
The productive and economic material transport
and logging in the mountains.
Our system
can be used to harvest
timber from entire valley
slopes with the minimum of
development costs and the carriage,
which transports the load, requires
only one Skyline cable with a single
mainline cable.
Loads are yarded in one easy operation
from either side over the entire
length of the Skyline, are raised to the
clamped carriage on the Skyline where
they are transported up or downhill
and then lowered to the roadside
landing. Note that since the logs are
directly yarded to the carriage, the

Skyline Crane, while still providing a

harvesting of timber on steep mountainous

sled yarder pulls itself to
the top operating station
on the mountain. It can
also be transportet by
helicopter.
The Sled Yarder is used for both the
installation and operation of the
Wyssen Skyline Crane. The mainline
cable, which is stored on the drum of
the sled yarder, hauls the loaded or
unloaded carriage uphill.
During downhill operation the carriage
is braked by the mainline cable
with the air-brake supplying the necessary
retarding force to regulate the
speed. Fitted inside the drum of the
sled yarder is a another large braking
system which acts to stop, or slow the
mainline cable drum and carriage as
required.
