RTK – Real Time Kinematics
• Real-time = updates as soon as data is
received
• Kinematic = motion of a body without
reference to its mass
• Data comes from local base station(s)

How RTK works
RTK is a process where GPS signal
corrections are transmitted in real time
from a reference receiver at a known
location to one or more remote rover
receivers. The use of an RTK capable
GPS system can compensate for
atmospheric delay, orbital errors and
other variables in GPS geometry,
increasing positioning accuracy up to
within a centimeter. RTK is a technique
employed in applications where precision
is paramount. RTK is used, not only as
a precision positioning instrument, but
also as a core for navigation systems
or automatic machine guidance. It
provides advantages over other traditional
positioning and tracking methods,
increasing productivity and accuracy.

CORS Network

Ramsey Bros offers the CORS correction
on compatible Topcon and Trimble
products, and use the Smartnet Aus
solution as their preferred CORS
correction.
How CORS works
A CORS network is an integrated system
and consists of:
• GPS/GNSS reference stations
spread out over a large area, typically
50-70 km apart.
• A central server that creates a
correction model for the region
covered by the network. GPS rovers
communicate with this CORS server
using a modem and receive RTK
type corrections.
The CORS Network is designed to
provide data to GPS rover receivers
by continuously monitoring and correcting
the positional data from the GNSS
satellite constellations. The data from
the reference stations is used to create
a network of “virtual” reference stations
near your current location, which then
provide a “localised” set of standard
format correction messages for your
roving receiver.
The transmission of the correction factors
via the internet and monitoring and
reporting the timing errors to the central
computing component allows for real
time correction and adjustment of the
coordinates. This ensures a high quality
correction and accuracy.
