Hi there!<br />

Hope all is going well with your studies, and that you are enjoying your course and making new friends. If things<br />

are not going so well or you are confused and unsure about something, come and see us in the START Office,<br />

Building 102. A Student Advisor can put you in touch with the right Support Service, information or person to help<br />

you solve your issue.<br />

We have put together ten quick tips to help your transition into university life. Find out how to succeed at uni<br />

The Learning Centre<br />

This free service provides academic guidance and support for <strong>Curtin</strong> students through seminar programs or via<br />

online resources. Find out how to get the most out of your tutorials, labs and lectures or if you are struggling with<br />

writing assignments or preparing presentations help is at hand<br />

Free Science Study Skills Workshops<br />

Workshops for new science students will be held in Building 300 each Wednesday afternoon from 12.00 -1.30 pm<br />

commencing on March 14 th .<br />

The Perth International Student Festival<br />

This exciting and entertaining event will be held at the Perth Cultural Centre in Northbridge from 11.30 am to<br />

7pm on Saturday March 17th. Entry is free, with giveaways, food and music. All welcome!


‘What’s The Law?’<br />

An information session for new International students will be presented by the START team and Legal Aid WA at<br />

the Norman Dufty LT, (Building 210) on Wednesday March 21 st from 12.15pm – 1.30pm. Free pizza, but please<br />

register here<br />

Topics include:<br />

A brief introduction to the Australian legal system<br />

What you should know if you want to drive in Australia, buy a new car or what to do if you are involved in<br />

a motor vehicle accident<br />

How to access legal help through Legal Aid WA<br />

Don’t forget the Census Date is Friday March 23 rd !<br />

A “Census date” is the date at which your enrolment is considered to be final for that semester. If you are<br />

thinking of reducing your study load or taking Leave of Absence for <strong>Semester</strong> 1, you must do so by Census Date to<br />

avoid fee liability and academic penalty for the withdrawn unit/s. If you have any queries about your enrolment<br />

or study load, please contact your Student Services Faculty office.<br />

Or try the free <strong>Curtin</strong> Guild App which provides students at <strong>Curtin</strong> <strong>University</strong> with the ultimate way in which to<br />

interact with student life. With this app you are able to build your student diary around your interests. Connect


with clubs and societies, manage your lectures and deadlines, find out about the latest events and parties, and<br />

through your GPS discount locator you will always have the best discounts at hand no matter where you are.<br />
