Corolla features an ingenious line-up of engine technologies and transmissions 

with low friction components, super-lightweight compact design and enhanced 

combustion efficiency. All of our endeavours are based on Toyota’s philosophy – 

‘Always Optimising’ – and the Corolla petrol and diesel engines are no exception. 

The 1.33 Dual VVT-i petrol engine delivers superb fuel economy and excellent 

driving characteristics. The Stop & Start System* on the 1.33 litre engine 

automatically switches the engine off when your vehicle is stationary: zero 

emissions, zero noise and vibration (overall CO emissions are just 133 g/km § ). 

The refined and powerful 1.4 litre D-4D diesel engine features advanced common 

rail technology to boost performance (90 bhp and 205 Nm at 1800–2800 rpm); 

fuel consumption and CO levels are minimised (125 g/km § ). A DPF (Diesel 

Particulate Filter) is fitted to reduce emissions.

Euro NCAP 

An independent assessment programme that evaluates 

the safety performance of new cars. Vehicles are 

awarded a score from one to five stars. Categories 

assessed are adult occupant protection, child occupant 

protection, pedestrian protection and safety assist. The 

Corolla has been awarded the maximum 5-star vehicle 

safety rating (2007), as a further testament to Toyota’s 

dedication to the safety and protection of drivers, 

passengers and pedestrians alike. 

ISOFIX seat fixing 

The seating incorporates special anchor points – 

including a top tether that helps prevent the seat 

tipping forward – for a safe and convenient way of 

correctly securing ISOFIX child seats (available from 

your Toyota retailer). 

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic 

Brake force Distribution (EBD) 

ABS prevents the wheels from locking while braking. 

EBD complements this by optimising brake force 

distribution between each wheel. Together the two 

systems help the driver to maintain steering control 

under heavy braking. 

Stop & Start System 

Our latest technology automatically stops the engine 

when your vehicle is stationary and in neutral at a red 

light or in a similar situation, to enhance fuel efficiency 

and reduce exhaust gas emissions. It immediately 

restarts the engine when you depress the clutch to 

resume engine power.

Brake Assist (BA) 

Automatically supports emergency braking if the brakes 

are applied quickly, but without sufficient pressure on 

the pedal. It does this by measuring how fast the brake

braking force. When you ease the pressure on the pedal 

BA similarly reduces the amount of assistance. 

Variable Valve Timing – with intelligence (VVT-i) 

Technology that maximises the engine’s performance 

by optimising timing of the air intake depending on 

whether you are accelerating, cruising or just idling.

Toyota’s powerful yet environmentally friendly diesel 

engine technology. Common rail direct injection adjusts 

pressure, timing and volume as you drive, injecting finely 

atomised fuel at high pressure into the combustion 

chamber for the best performance. 

Electrochromatic mirror with built-in rear monitor 

For more convenient reversing, day or night, the rearview 

mirror can be fitted with a monitor that shows 

images from the rear-view camera.

The automatic rain sensor instantly sets the appropriate 

wiper speed and intervals for you. The dusk sensor 

detects light levels and automatically switches on the

Designing your car Making your car Getting vehicles and 

parts to you 

To achieve lower emissions and greener vehicles on 

the way toward the ultimate eco-car, it is essential to 

measure progress. Toyota has therefore developed 

its Ecological Vehicle Assessment System, or Eco- 

VAS. This is a comprehensive approach to assessing a 

vehicle’s whole life cycle in terms of its impact on the 

environment, starting at the early stage of development, 

before the vehicle is actually built. 

The environmental impact of the Corolla petrol engine 

compared to the previous model is demonstrated 

through the complete life cycle with 6% CO (Carbon 

dioxide), 3% NOx (Nitrogen Oxide), 5% NMHC 

(Non-Methane Hydrocarbons), 3% PM (Particulate 

Matter) and 5% SOx (Sulphur Oxide) reduction. 

During the production of your vehicle every effort is 

made to reduce the effect of the manufacturing process 

on the environment. 

Since 2002 the environmental impact of manufacturing 

has continuously reduced, resulting in a 14% reduction 

in CO emissions, 14% reduction in water consumption 

and 39% reduction in volatile organic compounds. 

Waste disposed of at cost was also reduced by 3%. 

By implementing additional measures, such as reducing 

the length of the painting line and eliminating the 

primer drying process, the overall CO emissions in 

the production process are reduced additionally by 

approximately 4%. 

All our manufacturing operations meet Environmental 

Management System ISO 14001, a green standard we 

are proud of. 

We are always looking to employ the most efficient 

and environmentally friendly logistical and delivery 

methods. For instance, modes of transport with the least 

environmental impact are selected wherever possible.

Toyota quality service 

Your Toyota dealer will talk you through the Corolla 

‘Health and Safety’ maintenance programme. The 

programme is very straightforward and designed 

for your convenience. In effect, your Corolla needs 

a full Health and Safety check, dependent on driving 

style and conditions, up to once every two years or 

30,000 km (whichever comes sooner). An intermediate 

Health and Safety check is necessary every year or 

15,000 km (whichever comes sooner). 

Toyota warranty 

Comprehensive terms The warranty covers any defect 

caused by a manufacturing or assembly fault. It is valid 

for three years of normal use or 100,000 km, whichever 

comes first, with no mileage limitation for the first year.

If the car is immobilised due to a breakdown (as a result 

of a defect covered under warranty), you will also be 

covered for the cost of towing your vehicle to the nearest 

authorised Toyota repairer. 

Rust and paint defects The warranty also covers surface 

rust and paint defects appearing on any of the painted 

body panels as a result of a fault in materials for a period 

of 3 years, regardless of mileage. 

Corrosion cover The warranty offers 12 years’ coverage, 

regardless of mileage, against perforation of the 

bodywork (from inside to outside) that develops due to 

corrosion caused by faults in materials or workmanship. 

Toyota genuine parts 

The Corolla is designed to minimise the cost of accident 

repair. Energy-absorbing elements are built into the 

bumpers, expensive-to-replace parts are located away 

from damage zones, and commonly damaged body parts 

are bolted rather than welded. As a result, the extent of 

damage is limited and damaged parts are easy to remove, 

replace or repair. Ultimately, this means very low parts 

and labour charges. 

Toyota Eurocare 

In order to help you enjoy peace of mind driving, we are 

pleased to provide 3 years’ Toyota Eurocare roadside 

assistance coverage in no fewer than 40 European 

countries. If you experience a problem with your Corolla, 

Toyota Eurocare offers several possibilities to keep
