Greetings from the editorial board! 

Robert Maynard Hutchins saying “the objective of education 

is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout 

their lives” is aptly suited to today’s scenario where 

education is not confined to books alone. Knowledge has no 

boundaries and JSS University in its ambit takes immense 

measures to contribute to knowledge advancement in all 

spheres. Continuing educational programmes have gained 

importance in keeping update with recent advances as well 

as technological innovations. The words as well as works 

of wisdom from wise and eminent personalities not only 

inspire but also motivate young minds to think globally and 

contribute to nation in their own fields. 

The ‘Heart to Heart’ Programme with His Excellency Dr. 

APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India was yet another 

initiative in this regard wherein students from all JSS colleges 

had the opportunity to interact with the Missile Man of 

India on various issues. The interaction brought forth the 

importance of inculcating moral values in student life which 

would ultimately ensure that they become not only successful 

in their professions but also model citizens. 

The plethora of academic and research activities in the 

form of seminars and conferences being organized in the 

constituent colleges reflects the true potential of students and 

faculty to professional advancement and keeping abreast with 

knowledge. 

The much awaited establishment of state-of-the-art 

laboratories in Regulatory Affairs and Molecular Biology 

& Regenerative Medicine are other milestones which reflect 

the University’s ideals and the commitment to offer quality 

training to its students. 

With these achievements and many more to come in the 

future the University is constantly making efforts for the 

betterment of the profession and also the professionals in 

rendering their service to the society.

Message 

It gives me immense pleasure to assume charge as the Chief Editor of the JSS UNI News Letter. A news letter reflects multiple 

facets of the University and its constituent colleges. It includes activities of the University – Convocation, MoU’s, Collaborations 

etc., academic programmes held in various constituent colleges, achievements of staff, cultural and sports activities. The students 

and faculty are continuously contributing to these advancements keeping in view the University’s ideal and goals. This edition also 

is filled with many more such events and activities which will make all of us proud and inspire others to excel in their field. 

I am happy to write on this occasion of the release of the 3rd issue of the News Letter and thank all the members of the editorial 

team for their constant effort and support and wish them success in all their future endeavors.

Heart to Heart with 

the People’s President of India 

To meet, interact and be inspired by Former President of 

India, His Excellency Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, JSS University 

had organized a programme with the theme ‘Heart to Heart’ 

at our campus. The event was organised on May 18th at 2.30 

pm and was held at Sri Rajendra Auditorium, JSS Medical 

College. For this interactive session with Dr. Kalam the 

students participated from various JSS institutions with great 

enthusiasm. 

Dr. Kalam’s association with Sri Suttur Math dates back 

2002, when he visited JSS Medical College to deliver the 

Graduation Day address. This was before he assumed the 

President’s office. A few months later in the same year he 

visited Suttur School - this time as the President of India. 

Incidentally this visit to Suttur was his first official visit to 

Karnataka as the President. The association between Dr. 

Kalam and Suttur Math grew stronger over the years, and 

he always encouraged the activities of the Math – with his 

presence whenever it was possible, and by enlightening the 

young minds of our institutions. Dr. Kalam also gave us the 

unique honour of being the Distinguished Professor for JSS 

Institutions. 

JSS University has compiled ten thought provoking and 

inspiring lectures delivered by Dr. Kalam at our institutions 

during his many visits. The book is aptly titled ‘Heart to 

Heart’. Dr. Kalam, the People’s President, always inspired the 

hearts of a whole generation from his heart. This compilation 

of his speeches was JSS University’s humble effort to make 

his inspiring words accessible to a wider audience and to 

celebrate our decade long relationship with Dr. Kalam. 

His Holiness Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, 

Chancellor, JSS University graced the occasion. Sri B.N. 

Betkerur, Pro-Chancellor, Dr. B. Suresh, Vice Chancellor, 

Dr. Mruthyunjaya P. Kulenur, Registrar, Dr. H. Basavana 

Gowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College, and Sri Vastrad, 

Deputy Commissioner were among the dignitaries at the event. 

Faculty and Students representatives from JSS Medical 

College, JSS Dental College, JSS Colleges of Pharmacy, 

Mysore and Ooty, SJCE, JSS Arts, Science & Commerce 

College, JSS Women’s College, JSS Ayurveda Medical 

College, JSS College of Nursing, JSS College of Speech & 

Hearing, and JSS College of Physiotherapy were among the 

audience. Dr. B. Suresh delivered the welcome speech and Dr. 

H. Basavana Gowdappa introduced the guest to the audience.

His Holiness Sri Sri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, Chancellor, 

JSS University then gave the benediction. 

After the benediction Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam addressed the 

students and informed them to repeat a poem composed 

by him during his travel by road from Bangalore to Mysore 

on the previous day. He mentioned that the two important 

things required in the life of a human being are knowledge 

and courage. Further, he said that he would like to share his 

experience about the beautiful minds he has come across in 

his life. He narrated the experience he had about three people 

who he had come across in his life and based on the incidents 

how beautiful their minds are. 

Dr. Kalam then took up the questions asked by the students. 

While answering one question he mentioned that as a 

10 year old boy he was inspired by his Physics teacher 

Shivasubramanya Iyer, and decided that he wants to fly. He 

pursued and realised his dream. He added that technology can 

never replace a teacher. A good leader is one who thinks not 

about today but 20 years ahead and when one faces problems 

with courage he will work with integrity and succeed. He 

emphasised on the need for all the Universities in India to 

concentrate more on research so that teaching would become 

more effective. To another question he stated that it is the 

parents in a spiritual environment and a teacher at high 

school who will contribute most towards one’s individual 

development. He also stressed on need for doctors to 

concentrate more on primary health centres in the rural areas. 

Answering to a question, “What can a student do towards 

the development of a country?” Dr. Kalam smilingly replied 

that a student should concentrate on his studies and excel in 

education. 

In regard to the scientific development and technology Dr. 

Kalam answered few queries and defended that space missions

JSS University to Become a Centre of 

Excellence for Clinical Trials 

JSS University is set to cross yet another milestone with 

the recognition as a Centre of Excellence by the Clinical 

Development Services Agency (CDSA), New Delhi. 

are for the benefit of the whole society bringing advancements 

from communication, weather forecast to environment 

protection. There might come a day when nations would claim 

ownership to space, said Dr. Kalam in a lighter vein. Answering 

to a question about the necessity of nuclear power, he said we 

should promote sustainable energy like solar, wind, bio and 

hydro power. At the end of the session, to a question whether 

missiles are necessary, Dr. Kalam answered that the first 

rocket was launched in Srirangapatna against the British. 

So when the enemy is big, we should think about something 

bigger to fight him, so as to protect our people. 

The capabilities of the constituent colleges of JSSU include 

both preclinical and clinical facilities with a wide range of 

expertise to provide end-to-end solutions for the small and 

medium scale enterprises as well as other related entities. 

The consultancy services provided are at national and 

international level. Most of the clinical trials conducted 

at JSS Hospital, Mysore are multi-centered global trials. 

The clinical trials investigators are experienced in different 

therapeutics areas, which include Cardiology, Endocrinology, 

Psychiatry, Neurology, Pulmonary Medicine, Pediatrics and 

Dermatology. 

JSS University has rich experience in bio-study of product 

categories including Drugs and Medical devices, Vaccines, 

Neutraceuticals, and Biopharmaceuticals. The Drug Quality 

Testing Laboratory are Centre for Advanced Drug Research & 

Testing are approved by the Director of Drug Control, Drugs 

Controller General of India and Govt. of India for carrying out 

bioavailability and bioequivalence studies of drugs. 

With these strengths the University had submitted its proposal 

to the Translational Health Science Technology Institute, 

an autonomous institute of DBT-GOI under CDSA plan to 

establish collaborative network of clinical research sites, 

for considering JSS University as Centre of Excellence for 

Clinical Research. 

The programme saw huge response from students across the 

JSS institutions depicting the youth’s love for this People’s 

President, who always loved to interact with students. The 

Scientist turned Politician was at his best in answering the 

numerous inquisitive questions posed by the students be it be 

science, law, medicine, politics, technology. Dr. P.A. Kushalappa 

and Dr. Mamatha Guruprasad compeered the programme and 

Dr. Mruthyunjaya P. Kulenur proposed vote of thanks as an 

inspiring day at JSS came to close. 

After several rounds of presentations and clarifications the 

CDSA has shortlisted JSS University to be recognised as 

the Centre of Excellence for carrying out Clinical Trials. 

The officials of CDSA will be visiting the University on 

8th September 2012 to give the final verdict. We wish the 

University goodluck in this endeavour.

Striding Ahead with Innovation and 

Re‘cognition’! 

Pursuant to the signing of MoU with DRDO in November 

2011, JSS University invited delegates from DRDO for an 

interaction meeting on February 13th 2012. DRDO Directors 

Dr. Manas K. Mandal, Dr. Padaki, Dr. Illavazhagan and Dr. 

Sankar visited JSS University and interacted with faculty 

of constituent colleges and spoke on research initiatives and 

joint project proposals to submit to various funding agencies. 

The interaction focused on certain specific areas such as 

commencing of new course M.Sc in Cognitive Science. 

The Vice Chancellor Dr. B. Suresh envisaged that this joint 

programme would help bridge the gap between the need and 

the existing curriculum. Dr. Manas Mandal agreed upon this 

and proposed the tentative curriculum and syllabus, which 

would be finalized after getting the consensus from the 

concerned faculty. The proposal to conduct joint workshop 

and seminar in Cognitive Science at JSS University saw 

immediate materialization in organizing a workshop in 

Cognitive Science on June 16th 2012 at JSS University. 

JSSU Signs MoU with Gunasheela ARC 

Bangalore 

JSS University furthering its initiatives for Collaborative 

Programmes, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with 

Gunasheela Assisted Reproduction Centre, Bangalore. The 

MoU envisages starting of M.Sc in Clinical Embryology and 

Fellowship in Infertility under JSS University. The technical 

and professional expertise of Gunasheela ART(Assisted 

Reproductive Technology) together with JSS Medical College 

faculty would cater to the requisites of the programme. 

Dr. W. Selwamurthy, CC R&D, LS, DRDO, chaired the 

workshop session along with Dr. B. Suresh, Vice Chancellor, 

JSS University. Other DRDO officials and JSSU faculty 

participated in the workshop and six project proposals 

by JSSU faculty were reviewed during the workshop. Two 

projects were selected and two more were asked to be 

resubmitted after certain modifications. The DRDO officials 

made presentations about the various activities being carried 

out in their respective fields and suggested that based on 

areas of common interest JSSU faculty should design and 

submit projects so that the deliverability of the outcome would 

be higher. 

The workshop brought forth many areas upon which JSSU 

faculty would design their projects so as to carry out 

collaborative research with DRDO.

Farewell to Dr. Mruthyunjaya P. Kulenur, Former Registrar, JSS University. 

Kulenur, Registrar of the University was transferred to JSS 

Mahavidyapeetha as the Joint Director of Public Schools 

Division. 

JSS University since establishment has undergone several 

transformations in the field of academic and research 

activities. It has been four years since its inception and the 

university has grown by leaps and bounds and has several 

achievements to its credit. To support its endeavors there are 

able administrators and well wishers and advisors in various 

boards. 

For development and growth changes are essential and 

inevitable. This quarter, JSS University witnessed a major 

change in its administration when Dr. Mruthyunjaya P. 

Dr. Mruthyunjaya P. Kulenur, assumed charge as first 

Registrar of JSS University in 2008 soon after the 

establishment of the university. He had vast experience in 

the field of administration in various disciplines as academic 

administrator, deputy director and director at various levels 

of Mysore University including College Development and as 

member of Senate and Academic council of the University 

of Mysore. Since assuming charge as Registrar he had 

contributed immensely to the administrative activities of the 

newly established university. 

JSS University arranged a fitting farewell to its erstwhile 

Registrar on June 30th honoring his services to the university. 

The Vice Chancellor, Registrar Evaluation, Director Academic, 

Director Research, Deputy Registrar and other officers of the 

university and Principals of the constituent colleges spoke on 

the occasion and thanked Dr. Mruthyunjaya P. Kulenur for his 

services as Registrar of the University. 

JSS University has a New Registrar 

Dr. B. Manjunatha assumed charge as the in-charge Registrar of JSS University in place 

of Dr. Mruthyunjaya P. Kulenur. Dr. B. Manjunatha was earlier the Vice Principal of JSS 

Medical College. A Professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Dr. 

B. Manjunatha is well versed in the administrative activities. He is closely associated with 

JSS since 1995 when he joined as tutor soon after his graduation. He completed his post 

graduation in the year 2000 and was promoted as Assistant Professor. Since then he has 

served the institute in various disciplines including as professor of forensic medicine and 

now, has assumed charge as Registrar of the university. 

Dr. Manjunatha has several research publications both in national and international journals 

and has chaired several important conferences and workshops. He also has jointly authored 

several textbooks in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology. He has guided postgraduate students 

in the Department of Forensic Medicine. He is the life member of Karnataka Medico legal 

Society, South India Medico legal Society and Indian Society of Toxicology and is also 

honorary faculty at the Karnataka Police Academy, Mysore.

Union Minister Sri Sudip Banyopadhyay Dedicates Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology 

& Regenerative Medicine 

The newly established Centre of Excellence in Molecular 

Biology and Regenerative Medicine in the Department of 

Biochemistry, JSS Medical College, was inaugurated by Sri. 

Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for 

Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, on 6th 

July 2012. The Minister then took a tour of the laboratory 

accompanied by Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS University, 

Principal Dr. H. Basavana Gowdappa, Dr. M.V.S.S.T. 

Subbarao, Dr. M N Suma of JSS Medical College and other 

senior officers of JSS University.

Government has designed a programme to make renal and 

heart transplantation easier now. Further, he added that the 

Central Government would be willing to support Medical 

institutions like JSS Medical College that are emphasizing on 

carrying out positive research and assured that all possible 

help would be provided in these areas.

Dr. H Basavana Gowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College, 

introduced the Hon’ble Minister to the gathering and extended 

a warm welcome to the Minister. Registrar of JSS University, 

Dr. B. Manjunatha made a presentation about JSS University 

and the newly established Centre of Excellence through a 

power point presentation. 

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister mentioned that 

Diabetes, Tuberculosis, Cancer and other diseases are costing

“I deem it a pleasure and am delighted to participate this 

afternoon in the inauguration of the Centre of Excellence 

in Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine here in 

JSS Medical College, JSS University, Mysore. 

The Mysore-Cincinnati Sister City Project 

Takes Another Step Forward 

Dr. KH Basavaraj, Professor, Department of Dermatology 

had the honour of being part of the delegation lead by Sri H. 

Vishwanath, Honorable MP, Mysore, for signing an MoU with 

Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory, at Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. 

“I am happy to note that the JSS University, in its very 

short span of just four years, has succeeded in carrying 

forward the vision of providing quality education in Health 

Sciences and is emerging as one of the Nation’s preeminent 

comprehensive universities in the 21st century. It is now 

widely recognized for the quality of its undergraduate, 

graduate and professional educational programmes. 

“Researchers in molecular biology use specific techniques 

native to molecular biology, but increasingly combine these 

with techniques and ideas from genetics and biochemistry. 

There is no defined line between these disciplines. 

“Regenerative medicine is the ‘process of replacing or 

regenerating human cells, tissues or organs to restore or 

establish normal function’. This field holds the promise of 

regenerating damaged tissues and organs in the body by 

replacing damaged tissue and/or by stimulating the body’s 

own repair mechanisms to heal previously irreparable 

tissues or organs. Regenerative medicine also empowers 

scientists to grow tissues and organs in the laboratory 

and safely implant them when the body cannot heal 

itself. Added to this, Nanotechnology plays a key leading 

role in developing tools able to identify, measure, and 

study cellular events at the nanometric level as well as 

in contributing to the disclosure of unknown biological 

interactions and mechanisms. 

“I am happy to understand that the Vision Group for 

Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka, has 

also sanctioned project with funding of Rs. 60 lakhs for 

the establishment of Centre of Molecular Biology at JSS 

Medical College. I also understand that Defence Research 

and Development Organisation (DRDO), Govt. of India has 

entered into a collaboration with JSS University in setting 

up Centre of Excellence in Cognitive Science and to start 

PG programmes from the academic year 2012-13, which 

is noteworthy in the area of Research. 

Sister City Association of Greater Cincinnati (ICSCA) is 

a non-profit, volunteer organization facilitating business 

contacts and promoting cultural, educational, legal, and sports 

exchanges between the cities of Cincinnati and Mysore. The 

Mysore-Cincinnati Sister City Association Committee was 

founded in the year 2009. It aims to create student exchange 

programs, study abroad programs and service learning 

programs. Another objective is to establish collaborative 

relationships with universities, colleges & vocational 

institutions. It also envisions developing collaborative 

relationships with medical universities and doctors to further 

research and medical assistance. The Sister City Project 

enables mutually beneficial economic relationships and 

entrepreneurship, facilitates exchanges in art, music and 

performing arts between the two cities. 

The MoU envisages exchange programme for academic 

scholars, medical students, postgraduate fellows and faculty. 

It also ensures more cooperation in educational exchange 

programmes, training opportunities, and will facilitate clinical 

trials and Bio-Informatics collaborations. 

“I wish and hope all these will reach the common man and 

elevate the standard of health status in our country. 

“Before I conclude, I am sure that the strategic plan of the 

JSS University envisages to become largest educational 

provider as well as employer of the region, thus becoming 

the most valuable educational and research institution in 

the country and to be listed among the top universities in 

the world by 2020.”

Know More about JSSU BoM Members 

Hon’ble Mr. Justice 

Shivaraj V. Patil 

Former Judge 

Supreme Court of 

India 

Mr. Justice Shivaraj V. Patil was born on 12th January, 1940 

at Maladkai, Raichur District. Joined Bar at Gulbarga, the 

Divisional Headquarters in Hyderabad, Karnataka Area in 

1962 and practiced there till January, 1979. During this 

period, he had built up very good practice, both on criminal 

and civil sides. He also served as Part-time Lecturer in Seth 

Shankarlal Lahoti Law College, Gulbarga from 1967 to 1975 

and later served as Honorary Principal of the same College 

from May, 1975 to June, 1978. Two other positions he had 

were as the Legal Adviser to Shree Sharanabasaveswarar 

Samasthan, Hyderabad and Karnataka Education Society. 

Justice Patil is also author of the book on the life of the great 

Saint ‘Shree Sharanabasaveswara’ of Gulbarga. Through All 

India Radio, he had the opportunity of giving several Lectures 

relating to the subjects of legal and social importance. Having 

had the experience on original and appellate sides, he shifted 

to Bangalore in February, 1979 to exclusively practice in the 

High Court of Karnataka. He also became the member of the 

Standing Counsel for the Bangalore Development Authority 

and for the Central Silk Board. He was also appointed as the 

Advocate for Bangalore University and Gulbarga University. 

As a prominent lawyer and Judge in the High Court of 

Karnataka, he attended several international conferences. 

This includes the International Lawyers’ Conference at 

Belgrade (Yugoslavia) and Berlin (West Germany) in 1980; 

visits to USSR and European countries in 1987, and to UK 

and USA in 1995-96. He had also served as a member of 

the Karnataka State Bar Council, and the Karnataka Law 

Reporting Council. 

On 29th March 1990 he was elevated as Judge, High Court 

of Karnataka at Bangalore. In April, 1994, was transferred to 

High Court of Madras and continued as Judge till December 

1998. He was appointed as acting Chief Justice of High Court 

of Madras, and served in that position 28th December 1998 

to 19th January 1999. On 22nd of January that year he 

assumed office as Chief Justice of High Court of Rajasthan. 

After serving as a Chief Justice for over a year, he was 

elevated as Judge of the Supreme Court of India and assumed 

office on 15th March, 2000, and retired from that position on 

11th January 2005. 

Sri Shivaraj Patil is also the honourable member of Board 

of Management, JSS University and has a very active role in 

JSS University affairs and visits the University regularly. JSS 

University extends heartfelt thanks to his advice and guidance 

in all its endeavors.

Shri. M.V. Rajasekharan 

Former Union Minister of 

State & MLC, Karnataka 

Shri M.V. Rajasekharan was born on 12th September 1928 

in Maralwadi village in Kanakapura Taluk, Karnataka. He 

earned his B.A. Degree from Mysore University and has been 

educated at Faculty of Law - University of Delhi, University 

of Missouri and Kansas State University of Agriculture and 

Applied Sciences, U.S.A. 

He entered politics during India’s Independent struggle, and 

is one of veterans in Indian National Congress having served 

in the party for over five decades. He was part of Student 

Congress members to visit Madras in 1947 to see Mahatma 

Gandhi. He was also part of organizing ‘Mysore Chalo’ 

demanding the merger of Mysore State with Indian Union. 

As a Convener of Mysore Pradesh Youth Congress during 

1956-69, he was largely responsible for initiating steps to 

have a separate Ministry for Youth Affairs in Government of 

Karnataka. During his political career he has been active in 

almost every segment of society from youth activist, labour 

and farmers activist, to a parliamentary politician. The 84- 

year old leader has made valuable impact on national and 

state political scene. He has been a Member of Lok Sabha, 

MLA in Karnataka State Assembly, a Member of Karnataka 

Legislative Council and Member of Rajya Sabha, as well as 

the Minister of State for Planning, Government of India. 

In spite of being in politics all his life he prefers to 

call himself an agriculturist and his profession as the 

promotion of Rural Development Programmes. He is also 

professionally trained in whole range of agriculture related 

body of knowledge including Balanced Farming, Agricultural 

Extension, Cooperatives, Buying, Selling & Credit, Technical 

Training in Education, Health & Extension Services. As 

Minister of State for Planning, his contributions to planning 

process are still remembered as landmarks in terms of 

promoting the rural sector, putting Gandhian values in 

practice. 

He has been a member of Consultative Committee for 

Ministry of Food & Agriculture, Indian Council for 

Agricultural Research (ICAR), and Board of Regents, 

University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. As an 

agriculturist, he has been associated with many NGOs working 

in Rural Development. He has guided and monitored rural 

development projects in sericulture development, small and 

marginal farmers and landless agricultural labourers, and 

organised and coordinated many national and international 

seminars, workshops, conferences on development with a focus 

on rural development and training programmes in human 

resource development connected with rural development. 

He is also Editor of ‘AIRD News’ – an monthly magazine 

circulated among NGOs around the world. In July 2000, 

the National NGO Council of Sri Lanka awarded him 

with ‘Vishvashara’, which is constituted for outstanding 

personalities in Social Development. 

Sri M.V. Rajasekaran is the honourable member of Board of 

Management, JSS University and is closely associated with 

Rural Development and Healthcare programmes initiated by 

Suttur Math and JSS University. 

JSS University is honoured to have such a senior member as 

adviser and well wisher and his guidance are inspirational to

Efforts to Revitalize Pharmacy Courses Come 

Closer to Fruition 

Dr. B. Suresh, Vice Chancellor, JSS University also has an 

additional responsibility as the President of Pharmacy Council 

of India. In that capacity, he has visited several Pharmacy 

Colleges and held meetings with the Principals and Directors 

of these colleges during April 2012. The meetings were meant 

to discuss on the various issues pertaining to the Pharmacy 

courses. One important agenda was the steps to be taken for 

introducing innovative curriculum to revitalize the Pharmacy 

courses. The colleges and PCI will be working closer to 

achieve this goal. 

One More Feather on Dr. Kushalappa’s Hat 

Dr. P.A. Kushalappa, Director-Academic, JSS University was 

unanimously elected as the President of Jaychamaraj Wodeyar 

Golf Club(JWGC) in the Annual General Body meeting held 

on July 8th 2012. Dr. Kushalappa has been a sportsman 

throughout his student life and represented his College and 

University in many competitions. He is an ardent golfer and 

has been in the managerial committee of JWGC for the past 

ten years in various capacities. The doctor, professor, singer, 

director (academic) and golfer, now has another role to play 

adding to his versatile personality much to the admiration of 

his students and his colleagues. 

JSS Medical College in the Limelight 

According to the Pioneer Survey this year, JSS Medical 

College has ranked 5th among Medical Colleges in India. 

Started in the year 1984-85, this is no small achievement for 

the college. The graduate and post-graduate programs of the 

college are recognized by the Medical Council of India. 

The courses offered are also recognized by General Medical 

Council (UK), Sri Lanka Medical Council and WHO. The 

college has been recognized by the Royal College of Obstetrics 

and Gynaecology, UK, for the award of MRCOG. This new 

recognition is truly inspiring to aim higher in coming years.

Dr. H. Basavana Gowdappa Wins Lifetime 

Achievement Award 

for two more years. He is also nominated as member for 

World Psychiatric Association special sections of Human 

Sexuality Division and Preventive Psychiatry Division. Dr. Rao 

has also been nominated as Chairman, Journal committee, 

Indian Association of Social Psychiatry. Another nomination 

that came in his way was as Chief Advisor, Indian Journal of 

Geriatric Psychiatry and Indian Journal of Social Psychiatry. 

Dr. Sathyanarayana Rao conducted 2 hours Workshop on 

“Sensate Focus Exercises” at IPS South Zone PG CME 

on 14th & 15th Jul.2012. It was chaired by Dr.Dinesh, 

Cochin and Dr.Bhagyarao, President, IPS South Zone. It was 

attended by 180 PG students in Psychiatry from South Zone. 

Dr. H. Basavana Gowdappa, Principal & Professor of 

Medicine was awarded Dr. M.Maiyya honour oration by 

Association of Physicians of India Karnataka Chapter 

(KAPICON – 2012) held at Hassan on 12th May 2012. 

Dr. Basavana is selected to be honoured with a Lifetime 

Achievement Award to be conferred during the Annual 

Conference of API-Karnataka, which will be held on 15th & 

16th September 2012 at Raichur. The best paper awarded 

during KAPICON-2012 was titled ‘Visceral Adiposity in 

Diabetes Study in Mysore. 

Dr. Rao also released updated Book on ‘Psychiatry in India – 

Training and Training Centers 2012’ at Ancips-2012 held at 

Hotel Ashoka, New Delhi on17th January 2012.

Toxicology won the first prize in quiz as well as oral paper

Conference of Indian Society of Toxicology held at Wyte For, 

Cochin on 27th May 2012. 

Dr. Abishek A. Bhandiwad, Intern, was awarded first prize in 

the poster presentation at the Cutting Edge 2012 conference 

on High Risk Pregnancy at Bangalore. The poster titled Single 

Step Screening and diagnostic test for GDM. 

New Board Room in JSSMC Inaugurated 

Dr. M. Suresh Babu, Associate Prof of Medicine, honoured 

with the fellowship of Indian College of Physicians at the ICP 

convocation held in Science City, Kolkata on the occasion of 

API National Conference. He was also elected as a member of 

the American College of Physicians for the year 2012 -2013.

JSSCP Mysore Wins Prizes at AIISH 

AAWAAZ -2012 

Around 50 students of our college had participated in 

the inter-college cultural & literary competition -AIISH 

AAWAAZ 2012 held from 16th to 18th March 2012. It 

was organized by All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, 

Manasagangothri, Mysore. Students who participated in 

the event from JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore won 2nd 

prizes in four events. The events that won them prizes were 

Mock press, Group Dance (western), Face Painting and Pencil 

Sketching. These winning students were awarded with a total 

cash prize of Rs 2,350. Congratulations to all the winners and 

the students and staff who supported them to achieve it.

JSSCP Mysore Wins Championship Trophy for the 4th Consecutive Year! 

All India Inter –College Cultural & Literary Competition which was called Aspiration-2012 was held on 21st& 22nd April 

2012. The event was organized by PES College of Pharmacy, Bangalore, and held at their campus. 14 Pharmacy Colleges from 

different parts of the Country participated in Aspiration 2012. The Students from JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore contested in 

10 events and won in 8 of those events. The prizes won include 4 first prizes, 3 second prizes and one third prize. With this tally 

of 8 wins, JSSCP Mysore manage to bag the Overall Championship Trophy at Aspiration-2012. This was for the 4th consecutive 

year the college won the Overall Championship. Congratulations to all the participants and students and staff who supported the

Medicinal Plant Exhibition by JSSCP Ooty 

JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty conducted a Medicinal Plant 

Exhibition at Govt. Botanical Garden, Ooty during flower 

show in May 2012. The Medicinal Plant Garden of JSS 

College of Pharmacy won the 1st place and Rolling Cup 

in the competition organized as part of the Flower Show.

New Advanced Equipment Acquired 

JSS Medical College acquired some advanced equipment 

the last quarter. Those include PCR Machine, Micro Pipettes, 

Shaker Incubator and one 86c Freezer 

The new instruments and equipment acquired byJSS Dental 

College & Hospital includes Porter Nitrous oxide Sedation 

System, Physio Dispenser, Digital Panoramic (DIMAX) X-Ray 

Machine and an Auto Analyzer. 

JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty acquired and installed one 

FT IR spectrophotometer (Per Kin Elmer FTIR) in the 

department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in February 2012.

our society today. 

Dr H Basavana Gowdappa, Principal, JSSMC congratulated 

the organizers and offered generous assistance from the 

college for such endeavours and called upon to conduct many 

more in the future which would benefit doctors in refreshing 

and updating their academic and clinical competencies and 

skills. He also announced the intention of JSSMC to set up 

a comprehensive Skills Laboratory with advanced training 

equipment where complex techniques in management of 

patients can be taught. 

Dr G. Siddesh, Head of the Department of Surgery welcomed 

the delegates and outlined the design and objectives of the 

course. 

The Vice Chancellor of JSS University, Dr B. Suresh called 

upon the doctors to take the route of innovation in the field of 

healthcare in order to tackle the problems faced in catering to 

the varied healthcare needs of society today. He was speaking 

after inaugurating a Workshop on Surgical Skills at JSS 

Medical College on Saturday, July 14, 2012. 

Discussing the Indian healthcare scenario, the Vice Chancellor 

identified the spread of corporate hospitals and the growth of 

Government sponsored health schemes as the two fields where 

innovative methods are changing the face of the healthcare 

industry. While acknowledging the need for standardization 

he suggested that newer methodologies need to be devised 

to ensure delivery of quality healthcare services to larger 

number of people. Research and development of novel 

methods are the key and these are best forged in the crucible 

of academic environs of hospitals attached to medical 

colleges. Lauding the efforts of the teaching staff of JSS 

Medical College (JSSMC) and Mysore Medical College and 

Research Institute (MMC&RI) who were striving to produce 

skilled surgeons with a scientific bent of mind he opined that 

Post Graduate Exam Orientation Programme 

at JSSMC 

“JSS have not only proven themselves to be the best Medical 

College in the state yet again, in fact they have set new 

standards for succeeding generations to meet”. 

This statement was made by a visiting faculty in the 

programme organized by the department of Anaesthesiology, 

JSS Medical College, Mysore. The department conducted a 

Post Graduate Exam Orientation Programme as part of its

continuing medical education curriculum under the banner of 

‘PG EXCEL 2012’. The event spanned 2 days over a weekend, 

with over 300 Post Graduate delegates in attendance from 

medical colleges across Karnataka. These delegates were 

treated to an academic tour-de-force by some of the best 

teachers in the field. 

The teaching programme consisted of nearly 25 presentations 

covering some of the core topics in Anaesthesiology, with the 

sole intention of grooming these Post Graduates to better face 

the oncoming examinations. Pioneers in the field, outstanding 

clinicians, reputed teachers and subject experts formed the 

faculty in attendance. 

The programme was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor 

of JSS University Dr. B. Suresh. Organizing Chairman Dr. 

P.N. Viswanathan, welcomed the gathering. Dr. B. Suresh 

in his inauguration address told post graduates should keep 

themselves updated about the latest advances in the field of

After releasing the CME book, the Principal of JSS Medical 

College Dr.H.Basavana Gowdappa told this is an era of 

evidence based medicine, in which guidelines and protocols 

need to be followed. CMEs like this will not only help Post 

Graduates cross their first hurdle the ‘Exams’ but also help 

them to tackle problems during their clinical practice in the 

future. 

Organizing Secretary Dr. Akkamahadevi proposed the vote of 

thanks. The Scientific Committee Chairman Dr. Nalini Kotekar 

and ISA Mysore City Branch Secretary Dr.Archana were 

present on the occasion. Dr. Sarika and Dr. Anup were the 

masters of ceremony. 

Not confining to academics in entirety, the event was well 

balanced with generous dose of cultural extravaganza in 

the form of fashion show, dance, solo singing and ramp 

walks among other things. A full fledged involvement was 

surprisingly seen from the visiting faculty who took time out 

from their hectic schedule to walk the ramp, sing a tune and 

move a foot to the beat, so to speak! 

CME on Sleep Physiology at JSSMC 

Department of Physiology of JSS Medical College organized 

a one-day CME on Sleep Physiology. Resource persons were 

Dr. Bindu M. Kutty, Professor and HOD, Department of 

Neurophysiology, NIMHANS, Bangalore and Dr. Ravindra 

P.N., Associate Professor, Siddhartha Medical College, 

Tumkur on 16th March 2012 at Sri Rajendra Auditorium, 

JSS Medical College. 

Sleep Disorders, and conducted a lab session of Sleep scoring 

and analysis of Polysomnography. CME was attended by 

around 175 delegates. Faculty and Post Graduates from 

Tirupathi of Andhra Pradesh, Bangalore, Kolar, Bellur, 

Bagalkot, Shimoga, Belgaum, Bellary, Mandya, Mysore and 

JSS Medical Colleges, JSS Ayurveda College and JSS Dental 

College attended the CME. 

Shoulder CME in Association with KOA 

Department of Orthopaedics, JSS Medical College under 

the aegis of Karnataka Orthopaedic Association (KOA), had 

organised a Shoulder CME and live surgery on May 26th and 

27th 2012. Dr. H.B. Gadiyar and Dr. Srinivas Deep Urs were 

part of the organizing committee. 

There were 8 live surgeries both Arthroscopic and Open 

which covered various conditions of shoulder pathologies like 

Supraspinatus Tear, Bankarts Lesion, Recurrent Shoulder 

Dislocation and Impingement Syndrome. The patients were 

also benefited from the programme as it was done at a 

subsidized cost. 

Arthroscopic shoulder surgeries being one of the challenging 

surgeries in orthopaedics and this CME intended to help 

develop interest and confidence in performing such surgical 

manoeuvres among the young surgeons and Post Graduates. 

There were 6 speakers from Coimbatore and Bangalore who 

spoke about the various topics and shared their experiences. 

There were about 80 delegates who attended from various 

parts of the state. 

The authorities in Sleep Physiology delivered lectures 

on Introduction and History of Sleep, Sleep Substrates, 

Functional Significance of Sleep, Neurophysiology of Sleep,

JSS Medical College Medical Education Unit had organized 

Orientation Programme for its Post Graduate students of 

the 2012-13 batch and several faculty delivered lectures and 

oriented them towards relevant topics in the curriculum. 

Center for Continuous Learning for 

Professional Excellence (CCLPE) 

Established 

JSS University in order to encourage its faculty achieve 

professional excellence and continuous learning has 

established the CCLPE. As an initiative towards this conduced 

the first session of TOT (Training of Trainers) programme for 

the teaching faculty of its constituent colleges on 30th March 

2012.The programme was organized in the Committee Hall at 

JSS Dental College, Mysore.

and Post Graduate students attended the guest lectures and 

participated in e-poster presentation. 

Respected Dr. B. Nandlal, Principal, JSS Dental College, 

was the Chief Guest for the event. Dr. Sendil, Indian Dental 

Association President, Mr. J.S. Venu, Oral Care Consultant, 

Colgate Palmolive, and Dr Nithin Indian Dental Association 

Secretary were among the dignitaries present. Dr. Anil 

Kumar Gujjari, Vice Principal, JSSDC&H, presided over the 

programme. 

Subsequent to the success of the first training programme 

a second session of TOT progamme for the teachers of 

constituent colleges of JSS University was held on 6th July 

2012. The target faculty were Associate Professors and 

Dr. Sendil, President, IDA, inaugurating the programme 

above who were examiners and guides. It was held in Medical 

Education Unit of JSS Medical College. 

The enthusiastic participation by the faculty was much 

appreciated and gave the organizers the much needed spirit to 

organize many more such programmes in the future. 

Future Dental Professionals Programme at 

JSSDC&H 

The Department of Periodontology, JSS Dental College and 

Hospital, constituent of JSS University in collaboration 

with Indian Dental Association-Colgate, conducted first 

module of ‘Colgate-Indian Dental Association Future Dental 

Professionals Programme’ on 17th February 2012. 

The programme was coordinated by Mr. Guruprasad of 

Colgate Palmolive, Dr. Sheela Kumar and Dr.Vidya Priya 

Darshini, Department of Periodontology, JSS Dental

Mysore 

One day workshop on ‘Medication Safety – Industry and 

Regulatory Perspective’ was organized by Pharmacy 

Practice Department on January 30, 2012 for the benefit

Research, Regulatory Affairs and Pharmacology) and

A Two-day National seminar on “Clinical and Molecular 

Approaches for Drug Discovery” was conducted by the 

Department of Pharmacology, JSS College of Pharmacy, 

Ooty in March 2012. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr.

During the valedictory function the Vice Chancellor Dr. B. 

Suresh stated that the bio-pharmaceutical sector will grow 

by leaps and bounds in the future and said that it will throw 

up a lot of opportunities by 2015 and Foreign companies 

will depend on off-shore facilities in countries like India for 

supplementing their efforts. He also placed a key question 

“Is India ready for the growth?” and he insisted that there is 

an urgent need for different types of training and appropriate 

infrastructural facilities with focus on purity and safety of 

biological substances. The seminar provided a platform to 

discuss on cutting edge research in the field of drug discovery 

research and development. About 300 delegates from all over 

the country participated in this seminar.

Visit from Maastricht University, Netherlands 

Profesor Dorin Collyn and Dr. Joe Smitz from Maastricht 

University, Netherlands visited JSS University and interacted 

with JSS University faculty on March 22nd 2012. The 

meeting was organized at Sri Gowrishankara Auditorium, 

JSS Dental College and was attended by JSSU officials and 

faculty from Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Colleges. The 

discussion highlighted the areas for mutual cooperation and 

joint submission of projects. Dr. Shyam Vasudeva Rao from 

Philips Electronics India Ltd. mediated the collaborative 

meeting. Presentations from both Maastricht and JSS 

Universities were made and discussions were held with regard 

to the possible areas of collaborations such as COPD with 

emphasis on Non-communicable Diseases, Diabetes, Herbal 

Formulation of Drugs, Hypertension and Cardiovascular 

Diseases, Climate Change & Diseases, Problem Based 

Learning in Medical Education, etc.

Delegates from Khon Kaen University, Thailand visited 

JSSU on March 26th 2012 and interacted with officials 

and faculty of JSSU about the future project collaborations. 

The exchange of faculty between JSSU and KKU resulted 

in joint projects and publications of Environmental Science, 

Department of Water & Health. Pursuant to the discussions 

held during the meeting future collaborative projects would 

include enrollment of students from KKU for Masters in 

Environmental Science (Water & Health), exchange of faculty, 

registering eligible faculty from KKU as research guides for 

research scholars at JSSU, joint research projects and other 

academic and research initiatives.

attended the 4th UW/KKU/TU International Workshop on

who attended the Workshop discussed various interesting 

topics on research methods. There were 8 components 

of the Short-Term Training Program offered during the 

5-day Workshop such as Biostatistical Concepts, Clinical 

Epidemiology & Study Design, Behavioral Research Methods, 

Data Analysis, Clinical Trials, Grantsmanship, Research Ethics, 

and Development of Research Proposal. The participants 

were divided into four groups and each group had to develop a 

research proposal at the end of the workshop and present the 

same, which was critically evaluated by the faculty.

‘Bioequivalence and Bioavailability’ on 16th-18th August,

University, Belgaum, Dr. Loganath, Professor, Taylor

JSS University will be delivering talks in the Workshop 

using winNonlin. Dr. Venkateshwari Muthukumar will be 

conducting the Workshop and Dr. S.P. Dhanbal will be the 

Co-ordinator. 

Indo-South African Workshop in September 2012 

‘Indo-South African Workshop on Traditional Medicine 

– Sharing Knowledge & Experiences’ will be held at JSS 

College of Pharmacy, Ooty on 13th -15th September, 

2012. The Workshop is sponsored by Department 

of Science & Technology, Government of India, and 

Government of South Africa. Various topics related to 

traditional medicine, their utility and validation will be 

discussed by ten International experts and fifteen Indian 

experts at the Workshop.

MANASU Newsletter 

The Department of Psychiatry, which is committed to patient 

care plans to start an innovative patient awareness leaflet 

in Kannada called ‘MANASU’ to be published once every 

two months. The 2-page leaflet will have one page dedicated 

to creating awareness about common psychiatric disorders 

and the other will be about human values that contribute to 

the well-being of the mind. Dr M. Kishore, will be the editor 

of this Newsletter. We welcome contributions of articles 

from teaching and non -teaching faculty as well as students.

RESULTS & PLACEMENTS 

JSSU PGET and UGET 2012- Brief 

Overview 

JSS University as a university committed to offer quality 

training to its students conducts examinations for providing 

entry into its health care professions through an All India 

level entrance examination. This year too, the university 

conducted examinations successfully for admissions to Post 

Graduate Courses in Medicine and Dentistry. 

There were 2671 applicants for the Medical Post Graduate 

courses, of whom 92.88% wrote the entrance examinations 

while 94.91% of 747 applicants for Dental Post Graduate 

courses wrote the dental entrance examinations. The results 

were declared based on merit ranking and counseling was 

conducted and seats allotted accordingly. There was an overall 

increase in the number of applicants compared to previous 

year for both medical as well as dental postgraduate courses. 

Similarly, JSS University conducted entrance examination for 

Undergraduate Medicine and Dental courses wherein again, 

there was an increase in the number of aspirants compared 

to previous year. This year saw a total of 4191 applicants as 

opposed to last year’s 1772 applicants. The seats were again 

allotted based on merit ranking. 

Students of M.Sc in Water & Health Excel 

Again! 

The II semester examination for students of M.Sc 

Environmental Science was conducted in May-June 2012 and 

the students excelled again by securing 100% pass results. 


The Post Graduate students secured 89.61% pass results in 

various specialties and the Undergraduate students secured 

about 80% pass results in the MBBS Phase I, II and III 

examinations conducted during January 2012. 

JSSDC 

The Post Graduate students secured 92% pass results in the 

examinations held in April 2012. 

The Undergraduate students too came out with flying colours 

in the examinations conducted in the month of June 2012. 


The students secured 100% pass results with several 

distinctions in the M.Pharm examinations conducted in the 

month of April-May 2012. 


All the departments secured 100% pass results in the 

postgraduate exams. 

of Pharmaceutical Analysis secured overall first and 

second rank respectively in the College.

SOCIAL WELFARE INITIATIVES 

JSSU is committed to its cause of better health for all. Our initiatives for the same extend beyond the learning and 

research facilities of a college ,beyond the medical care extended in a hospital and endeavor to reach out to the public 

in general Hence we organize health awareness drives on a regular basis to educate people regarding both physical 

and mental well being, which include free check up and treatment camps where we educate people on precautionary & 

preventive measures. This quarter saw the commemoration of two important health related days: The World Blood Donor 

Day and The World Dentist Day. 

Donating for a Cause - World Blood Donor 

Day 

JSS Medical College not only strives to provide quality 

education to its students but also creates health awareness 

by conducting several community service activities and 

health awareness programmes. Every year the college 

organizes Blood Donation camps wherein faculty and students 

voluntarily donate blood. The collected blood units are stored 

in the blood bank to help several patients in times of need. 

Club and several NGO’s on 14th June 2012. Dr. S.M. 

Malegowda, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, 

Mysore expounded upon the significance of the World Blood 

Donor’s Day, 2012 and emphasized the importance of 

Voluntary Blood Donation. The programme was inaugurated 

by Sri P.S. Vastrad, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mysore, by 

lighting the lamp and motivated the youth to donate blood and 

save lives in his inaugural address. 

JSSMC Conducts Mental Health Awareness 

Programme 

The Department of Psychiatry, JSS Medical College 

under the supervision of Dr. T.S.S. Rao jointly organized 

a Mental Health Awareness Programme with Mysore 

District Administration, Govt. of Karnataka and Judicial 

Administration, Govt. of Karnataka on March 10th, 2012 

at Senate Bhavan, University of Mysore, Manasa Gangothri, 

Mysore. 

JSSDC&H Celebrates World Dentist Day 

The Department of Periodontology, JSS Dental College and 

Hospital, conducted a Screening Camp at the Babu Jagajivan 

Ram High School, Rajiv Nagar on 7th March 2012 as part 

World Blood Donor Day, 2012 was celebrated for the sixth 

consecutive year by JSS University in association with 

District Health and Family Welfare Office, District AIDS 

Control and Prevention Unit, Mysore, KSAPS, Red Ribbon

a grand success with the combined efforts of the organizers, 

sponsors, Principal, staff and students of JSS Dental College 

& Hospital. 

JSSCP, Mysore NSS unit Organizes Special 

Camp 

Health Awareness Programme by JSSCP, 

Ooty 

Dr. B. Duraiswamy, Professor & Head and Dr. Nilani P. 

Professor were part of the organising committee in an 

awareness program, ‘Malai Mel Suga Valvu-Health Awareness 

Programme’ at Bharathiar University Arts and Science 

College, Gudalur and Dr. Nilani P. spoke on the importance 

of Medicinal use of herbs. The program was jointly organized 

by All India Radio and Tamilnadu Agriculture University, 

Tamilnadu in March 2012. Around 500 college students and 

15 tribal people participated in the awareness program. The 

program laid a platform for exchanging traditional knowledge 

of herbal medicine between the tribal people and the general 

public. 

Educating on the Value of Exercise 

Mrs. A.R. Srividya, Assistant Professor, Mr. Ashish Wadhwani 

and Mr. Patel Viral, Research Scholars delivered talk on 

‘The role of exercise in keeping people healthy’ at Lawrence 

School, Lovedale, The Nilgiris in March 2012. The students 

of the school participated and interacted with the presenters 

enthusiastically. 

Forthcoming Event: Body Donation 

Association’s Awareness Programme 

JSS Medical College has established a Body Donation 

Association with more than 1000 registered body 

donors. Every year, the association organizes an 

orientation programme for the general public to create 

awareness about body donation. This year too the Body 

Donation Association along with the Department of 

Anatomy is organising a Health awareness programme 

for the body donors and their family members on 19th 

August, 2012 at Sri Rajendra auditorium JSS Medical 

college between 10pm and 4 pm. 

The audience will be enlightened on two topics: 

National service scheme (NSS) unit of JSS College of 

Pharmacy, Mysore organized its 16th Annual special camp at 

Jeemarahalli, Nanjangud Taluk, Mysore District from 1st to 

7th February 2012. 

Dr. Mruthyanjaya P. Kulenur, Registrar, JSSU, inaugurated the 

camp. The camp had organized free eye operation assistance 

to many of the needy who attended the camp. The NSS

chief guest at the function. Sri B. N. Betkerur presided over 

the function . Sri Javagal Srinath, Former Senior cricketer 

was a special invitee at the celebrations.

MAGNUM 2012 – JSSDC&H Cultural & Sports Fest 

The cultural and sports extravaganza of JSS Dental College and Hospital, MAGNUM 2012 was conducted from 13th-31st of 

March which included a variety of sporting events like JSS Premier League cricket (JPL3), Farshid-Riyaz 6s Football, Tornoi de 

Femme, a first of its kind cricket for ladies and athletics. The cultural events included JSS Idol - 3, Short film, Dance Sync and 

many other events, which culminated in the fun fair held on 19th May with many exciting stalls and events. 

The Farshid-Riyaz football tournament was the kick off to this entertaining fortnight, which saw the Interns emerging winners. 

JPL 3 saw many a cricketing talent amongst the dental fraternity. Both the events were aptly inaugurated by Dr. Chandan S. N. 

Tornoi de Femme, a pioneering cricket tournament for ladies was the sparkle in the sports events with a full house at every match. 

The athletic meet was held on 19th May, inaugurated by Dr. Kushalappa, Director Academic, JSSU and brought out the Olympian 

in every participant. 

The cultural highlight was JSS Idol 3, a singing competition, where in the talent ensured a full house at every show!! The final 

was judged by Dr. Kushalappa, Dr. Kalabharati and Dr. Vidyapriyadarshini with Dr. Hardik, Vinny, Dr. Vivek and Dr. Rinkoo 

emerging winners. Other highlights included Short film festival, Model Makeover, Interior designing, Dance Sync, Group dance, etc. 

Enthusiastic participation from Staff and Students alike and support by the college ensured the event was a grand success.

JSSCP, Ooty College Day 

JSS College of Pharmacy ,Ooty celebrated its 21st College 

day. The chief guest for the occasion was Dr Rita Banerjee, 

Scientist, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi. 

During her speech, she explained the various research funding 

programs available with the Department of Science and 

Technology and asked the researchers to avail these schemes 

through innovative research projects. 

Prof.K.Chinnaswamy, President (Elect) Indian 

Pharmaceutical Congress Association also spoke on the 

occasion and emphasized the latest developments in Pharma 

sector. Guest of Honor, Mr.Thambu Raj, an alumni who 

now is the Marketing Manager, USV Limited, Mumbai 

highlighted the various job opportunities for students. He 

also encouraged undergraduate students to pursue Masters 

programmes in Pharmacy or Business Administration to 

better their career prospects. 

Dr. B.Suresh, Vice-Chanceller, JSS University, Mysore in his 

presidential address emphasised the importance of continuous 

up-gradation of knowledge, interest in international language 

and improving communication skills to excel in overseas 

business activities. On this occasion the college magazine 

‘Pharmasaga – 2012’ was released. The students received 

certificate of appreciation and medals for their best 

performance in academic, sports and NSS activities at the 

event.
