women or children who have a hard time seeing <strong>the</strong>mselves in God’s plan <strong>of</strong> salvation, regardless <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> “generic masculines.” I have <strong>and</strong> continue to have, however, challenges with both men <strong>and</strong><br />
women who are struggling with <strong>the</strong>ir God-given roles.<br />
3. It has been said before, but I will say it again: There is not <strong>and</strong> cannot be any substitute for a<br />
clergy that is expected to have <strong>the</strong> necessary tools <strong>and</strong> training to work in original languages.<br />
Scripture is a deep well <strong>of</strong> God’s will. Translations will do <strong>the</strong>ir part in conveying <strong>the</strong> depth <strong>of</strong> God’s<br />
will. But <strong>the</strong>re are limitations. May we always continue to hone our linguistic skills to better lead<br />
our flocks!<br />
4. Let us be guarded in our words. At times when <strong>the</strong>re is heated discussion about translation –<br />
whe<strong>the</strong>r in general, or with regard to specific aspects, <strong>the</strong> collateral damage among <strong>the</strong> laity can be<br />
heavy. It is unfortunate indeed if we leave members questioning if any translation can be <strong>the</strong> Word.<br />
