Hatherton Canal Work on the Hatherton Canal has continued in much the same steady way. As last year, some work parties had to be postponed due to wet weather. Grass cutting and tidying up fallen trees have been caught up on occasional days mid-week. Earlier this year BW asked the Trust to confirm names of bridges on the Hatherton section and since then oval Staffs & Worcesterstyle name plates have been fixed to those at Calf Heath, Saredon Mill and Scrawpers End. It would be interesting to know if the area surrounding the last of these, and the Saredon Mill Bridge No.4 nearby cottages by the feeder to Gailey Reservoir, was named after a particular person or a trade - even if anything to be discovered may not be as spectacular as the Saxon Lichfield Angel and Staffordshire Hoard (Ogley Hay) which we have at each end of the Lichfield Canal.
